That being said, I use reddit every day. Not for news, or politics, or any of that bullshit that reddit loves to obsess over. I use it for entertainment. For example, lets say I just finished to watching breaking bad. I would go to the breaking bad subreddit and get to read all these awesome discussions that happened when the show was first airing. I would see lots of details people noticed that went over my head. And, if I got to the subreddit for a show that is still airing, I can participate in the discussion.
Compare that to 4chan. I come here, and unless I am on the site at the exact moment something cool is pointed out, I never see it. And if I try to start a conversation about something, 90% of the time I get spoiled and called a faggot.
I go to the subreddit for lesbian gifs, and I see lots of lesbian gifs that other people like. I start a lesbian gif thread here, and I get bombarded with traps and have to listen to arguments about how jerking off the someone with a cock is totally not gay.
That being said, reddit will never have the spontaneity of 4chan. Nothing incredible will ever happen there.
That is the core difference. 4chan is about living in the moment, and talking about whatever comes to mind. Reddit is about larger, longer discussions about specific topics. Both sites have good sections, and both sites have shitty ones. Only looking at the front page of reddit and assuming its all about faggotry is like only looking at /mlp/ and assuming the whole site is about fat neckbeards who jerk off th a childrens cartoon.
