>"When Huang pulled up the GPU's stats, it was running at 2.1 GHz and the memory was running at 5.5 GHz. That's faster than any GPU today, except for one of its last generation cards with liquid nitrogen cooling. Most remarkable? The 1080 was just just relying on air cooling. It was running at 67 celsius"
What's the catch, /b/?
I will always buy Nvidia™ because I only play games The Way It's Meant to be Played™. Nvidia also pioneers innovative new technologies like PhysX™, Gameworks™ and the highest quality driver to ever grace Windows.
When I boot up with a brand new Nvidia™ Geforce™, I can experience the game just like it's meant to be played. Nvidia™ also delivers a far more smooth experience.
Nvidia Geforce™ is also very power efficient. A graphic card is the most power hungry device in your house. Refrigerators, AC units, water heaters, dishwashers, lights, etc all use significantly less power than a graphic card. Which is why Nvidia™ puts gamers first by ensuring that their gaming experience is of the highest quality while looking out for gamers by giving them the most value in their electrical bill
At this point in time, there's really no reasons to consider an AMD graphic card at all. I tried one one time, it caused so much heat that it exploded. It also consumed so much power that it gave on an EMP and destroyed the rest of my computer.
Nvidia™ also pioneered how useless GPGPU is with CUDA™. Years ago, everyone thought GPGPU, CUDA™, and OpenCL were the future. Now, Nvidia™ has removed those useless features from their GPUs and increased efficiency. Now you can save thousands a year in electricity thanks to Nvidia™ ensuring that useless features like GPGPU are "optimized" for gamers.
It's quite clear that OP's an AMD shill trying to convince you to settle on something less than The Way It's Meant to be Played™. Nvidia™ is the only real way to play games. We have seen recently that they offer incredible libraries for software developers like Nvidia Gameworks. He is probably too poor to afford the Nvidia Geforce Experience and can not afford to play any games The Way It's Meant To be Played™.
Don't be a poor gamer with bad drivers and a huge power bill. Play games with the Geforce™ Experience™: The Way It's Meant To Be Played™
people spend just as much yearly on new iphones, who gives a shit, dont bitch bout how other people can buy shit just cause mommy wont exchange your goodboypoints for new gpus.
>tfw want to buy new computer
>realize its a waste since they still haven't made better gpu than my 6 years old i5-2500k
Why upgrade when they don't make anything good for pc anymore? All you have is gta 5 which is dumb as hell and league which is dumb as hell. Starcraft runs on old cards and d3 runs on old cards. Everything else good runs on old cards. Wait until they finally get something good out. Even unreal 4 runs great on old cards and looks good.
Enjoy forking out $700 for something that will be outdated and in need of a replacement in 3 months, PC plebs.
You kind of have a point. I haven't even thought about upgrading my cards becuase I still run most things very well on high settings. Like honestly the 670s have been awesome cards to me. But still. There are some games that are multi-plats that I would much rather play on PC.
You are pretty dumb to even act like you absolutely have to upgrade. I have had my cards for like 5 years now. And they still perform amazingly. If I decide to upgrade, its still just upgrading to upgrade at this point. Its not a necessity
you sound salty are you poor? your parents don't give you enough allowance? you one of those faggots who claim to have better things to spend money on but you don't
>Divinity Original Sin 2
>Total War: Warhammer
>Dawn of War 3
>Dank Souls 3
It's like you don't enjoy fun, anon. Though I think I'm quite good for the next year or two.
>He thinks it will ever get out of alpha.
I have this bridge I want to sell you.
catch is the 970 and such can run all the games already .. and will be able to run games several years in the future. no reason to buy a cutting edge card unless your going to bust out 4k at 120 frames and multiple monitors. even then you can get 2x 970s for that price and do the same shit.
More so now than ever, it's still a niche yes but I've had a DK2 for over a year now. Tons of fun times with it. There's going to be oculus and vive demos at tons of stores here in the next few months, try it out and decide for yourself.
Once I see a game I feel I really must have, I'll pick up a consumer VR headset.
Think its worth it to replace an old HD 7950?
>GTX 980 TI SLI
> Liquid cooled
>5930k running at 3.5 GHz
>That's faster than any GPU today
>card shows up on aots bench
>nvidia promotes 20% faster
>4 fps faster than 980ti
>nvidia promotes 20% faster
>makes you buy it for 700
>still getting away with false advertisment
That's fine for people that already upgraded, but those of us that have waited and need to upgrade soon have better options now. And for roughly the same price we get something better.
Shhh, don't be upset. Why don't you go buy a $150 mouse to calm your nerves... you'll feel better.
That's like buying a Ferrari and capping it at 60 mph
>New cards announced
>Madbor cos mummy just bought birthday present 980
>Justify shit present to make yourself feel better
>Be too poor to buy 1080
>Attempt to panic sell 980's / fail
Gimme Gimme chicken tendies,
Be they crispy or from Wendys.
Spend my hard-earned good-boy points,
on Kid's Meal burger joints,
Mummy lifts me to the car,
To find me tendies near and far.
Enjoy my tasty tendie treats,
in comfy big boy booster seats.
McDonald's, Hardee's, Popeye's, Cane's,
But of my tendies none remains.
She tries to make me take a nappy,
sleeping doesn't make me happy.
Tendies are the only food,
That puts me in the napping mood.
I'll scream and shout and make a fuss,
I'll scratch, I'll bite, I'll even cuss!
Tendies are my hearts desire,
Fueled by raging, hungry fire.
Mummy sobs and wails and cries,
But tears aren't tendies, nugs or fries.
My good-boy points were fairly earned,
To buy the tendies that I've yearned.
But there's no tendies on my plate!
Did mummy think that I'd just ate?
"TENDIES TENDIES GET THEM NOW,
YOU FAT, UNGRATEFUL, SLUGGISH SOW!"
I screech while hurling into her eyes,
My foul-smell diaper surprise.
For she who is un-pooped on is she who remembers;
Never forget my chicken tenders
>It will be enough to play most games at high settings.
"I wonder if NVIDIA intentionally made their games harder to run on AMD because AMD couldn't handle tesselation".
Holy fuck that guy is delusional.
>Normally AMD and NVIDIA are competetive
>proceeds to talk about how NVIDIA outperforms AMD in pretty much everything
You did watch those vids, right?
he is right tho we know since for years now that nvidia can do hardware tesselation culling...
in fact nvidia culls every sub pixel triangle and thus is gains quite a lot on that..
amd till now doesnt have any way to cull sub pixels triangles and relys on bruteforcing it on half of the setting aka if its x64 amd will use x32
>He thinks speccy shows correct CPU frequency
It's 4.6ghz faggot.
Was built at X99 launch, the choices were shitty timings, shittier timings, shittiest timings and all at $400+ per 16gb kit. -shrug- It hasn't been an issue that would cause me to go out and replace it.
not really only certain games use sub pixel tesselation
and all of them are gameworks title
crysis 2 batman series the witcher series
every other neutral game doesnt go that far because no one can notice it
You're not that retarded are you?
Obviously people, like yourself, who look up "why nvidia is bad" or "how do i squeeze every ounce of power out of my $100 GPU allowance" on Youtube, is going to find that video and like it.
Same goes for literally any other subject.
Is it possible to run a PS4 with a GTX1080? Surely someone could do it?
So it's not that they're incompetent and inferior, it's that they're incompetent and inferior in a major way in a select group of games?
You can't beat around the bush forever.
regardless wether this is trolling or not, there are actually people that think graphics work this way
these people keep pushing down the price of the new card too.. its seriously going to be 500 bucks easy.. they always are.
the new tech always has lots of failures because the specs are so tight. they charge more to make up for the difference in order to sell you one of the successes.
ever sine sli was released you get a beter value and usually beter specs going for two slightly older cards rather than one expensive beast card.
Actually the timings are average, it's not DDR3. CAS 7~9 don't even exist in the DDR4 standard. The best you'll get is 10-12-12-28 and on even slower ram than he has. Depending on what you're doing, you can either buy a $300 kit with good timings and shit speed, or $150-200 on 3000+mhz with what's pretty much average for DDR4.
Greetings from /g/, enjoy your free spoon fed knowledge.
How does it feel being four off quints?
>someone super turbo megafaggot trolling
>be so fucking uninformed or stupid to actually reply to this
leave the internet please
Can I run this in conjunction with my r9 280? Obviously not crossfire/sli but I honestly dont know if you can run to different gfxs on the same board?
>tfw im not even trolling, just stupid.
>search for that while pretty much knowing it is removed
>it's still there
CL 15 is not average, it's "kind of" shitty. But it doesn't matter that much.
CL13 or 14 would be better, but the dude explained why he bought 15's.
Plz wheelchair yourself back to /g, and put that spoon right up your fat faggot ass. fucker.
Nvidia shafting the customers again with this. Release a mid tier card at extreme tier prices, then release the ti which is the full fat chip at an even higher price when it should have been the released with the rest of them at the 1080's price.
The PC component market has been dead for too long and Intel's lack of motivation and Nvidia's Apple tier mark-ups are making consoles seem attractive. Then they will fire a load of staff while blaming the market for not wanting to get fucked over.
>being so literally fucking stupid STILL not realizing nobody can even 'already have one'
it must hurt being this much of a retard
>talking yourself this much into a retard loop
>paying anything for the card
>paying anything for the card
just admit you are either blind or retarded and be done with it.
you really dont know how the shit works eh...
founders cards are literally smelling bad yields they wont give ANYTHING for free only when micron decide to start mass producing on june which suprise suprise its when the "regular" aib 1080 will start to ship
stop talking around the fact that you've been an idiot on multiple occasions
>1080 isn't out to buy yet
>reviewers/employees who do have em haven't paid jack shit
literally everything you've said thus far has been based on you being a misinformed retard.
Fingers crossed I still get a good 3-4 years before my 980 is outdated
I actually feel uncomfortable reading this... happy because of those tight rhymes but sad because of the nugget craving destroying the life of the good-boy point earner :,,,(((
Also gratz on Satan trips
>implying console is cheaper in the long run.
- Enjoy upgrading whenever the console makers want to make a new cash-in
- Enjoy paying to access the fucking online features (2016, how this even possible?)
- Enjoy your fucking expensive games
- Enjoy going to the store instead of preloading the game and play at midnight release
mfw the fucking kids in here
mhz doesn't mean shit unless you're comparing it against the same architecture and scale.
For example people have been overclocking old pentium 4s to over 5ghz for over a decade but you can bet your balls an i3 will still beat it in any benchmark; hell i'd bet the g3258 would too.
I can hear the hemorrhoids forming inside you.
Yeah it's great.
I have two and I can run GTAV at 3840x2160 max everything with 4xAA at 45-60fps.
>the thought of using that monster 1080 with my 6700k at 5.2ghz
It means each frame is post processed with anti-aliasing to the scale of 4 times. Curves are made of many small straight lines, this creates jagged edges. Each time you AA a curve you double the amount of smaller straight lines used to make the curve. Each time you do it the jagged edges become harder to see and the curve looks more, well, curved. I mean this is a very diluted explanation of it, without getting too neckbeard.
Why would I need to upgrade to this card when what I have now is perfect?
So eventually I'm going to have money and I plan on building a pc.
I know very little to nothing about the hardware.
If I buy a powerful graphics card but have a shit processor it pretty much wont matter right?
The thing I should spend the most money on should be the processor right? I'm talking about like I should go for a high end processor, I know graphics cards can/will be the most expensive part of the computer, but I should make sure I have a quality processor, right?
Where did u go wrong anon forget to put on heat sink?
CPU is fine, just pointless if you're not overclocking.
If you're getting a K-series CPU then get a Z-series motherboard so you can overclock.
If you're not getting a Z-series motherboard, i.e. not overclocking, then just buy the non-K CPU.
cant even tell if this is bait lol. Nowadays the GPU is most certainly the most important part of the PC. CPU comes after. With that said, a shitty cpu can easily bottleneck a good GPU. But as long as its maybe 3.5 ghz and up, you should be good.
The main reason I'm building a pc is for the multi purpose, Im certainly not looking for that 1080 graphics card, just something that can run Dark Souls 3 and Overwatch on high and also not stutter them if I'm watching a stream on a second monitor, so I guess I'm looking for power.
My current computer struggles to watch a stream and draw vector lines in my art program.
>stutter, like my heart.
It's obviously either a malfunctioning sensor or it's being read wrong. CPU would thermal throttle well before it hit 90.
And unless you're using phase change, the rads are outside or your moms basement is really fuckin cold 11°C is a bad sensor/read too. Even with water cooling you can't go below the ambient temp where the rad is.
I mean if you have the budget I'd go for at least a quad core i7, or i5 at the very minimum. Then focus on your GPU. The i5 would be fine for a gaming rig but for multipurpose i'd say i7 minimum.
depends what kind of money you want to spend. If you have the money, then wait. If you dont, then buy the 970/980ti now or maybe wait a few days, its so cheap after the announcement.
If they have 3 slots like some older machines or 4 slots like some newer boards, they could 4 2 1, but that would be so fucking retarded for channel configuration and performance.
970. Sli is a mess. if its about money, wait a few days and get the 980ti on sale instead tho. So many companies are shitting their pants right now because they bought huge amounts of them.
Not usually? I play max graphics ~65-70 fps; ofc there's drops at graphically intensive areas of a game, but for the most part I've had no serious issues. Also, I oc sometimes.
Gw2, B&S, FEAR games, Crysis games, DA and ME games (All six), no issues as of yet. none of the newer generation of games have looked good enough for me to bother even trying.
>Every single instance of “Founder's Edition” can be replaced with the word “Reference,” using previous-gen nomenclature. There is not one difference in its market positioning. They are synonymous. NVidia has replaced its “Reference” name with “Founder's Edition.”
>There are not two GTX 1080 models made by nVidia. Only the “Founder's Edition” exists; there is not a cheaper card made by nVidia than the $700 Founder's Edition, which ships first.
>Just to be clear: nVidia is making one official GTX 1080 and one official GTX 1070 model.
>The “Founder's Edition” is not specially binned.
>The “Founder's Edition” is not pre-overclocked.
>The “Founder's Edition” uses the new industrial design and cooler from nVidia. Historically, this is what we would call the “reference cooler.” The cooler is more-or-less identical to the previous reference models. It's got vapor chamber cooling, a VRM blower fan, and a large alloy heatsink under the shroud. >There is a backplate on the GTX 1080 Founder's Edition.
>This card is not "limited edition," despite its name that would indicate as much, and will run production through the life of the GTX 1080 product line.
DON'T GET SCAMMED
Founder's is just marketing spin, yeah, but it also says all the other manufacturers like EVGA and MSI ect will do their own versions so anyone with any sense will buy the EVGA
They are also open source, which is beneficial for the industry as a whole. Unlike some closed-source middleware that only exists to make your competitors' cards look bad with virtually no improvement in image quality.
Also, have you heard that all Polaris gpus will support True HDR 10-bit color, a feature that is only available on quadros?
>not going dry
>not using your coffee mug
