I'm right there with you. Fusion took the metroid formula and beat it into this modern, easy to chew, pulpy mess that's destroying what I loved about video games growing up. Fusion is metroid with all difficulty and room for growth and error stripped away. Sequence breaking is nigh impossible, and even when it is you're left in a dead end game so it's worthless. Every metroid game since this has been a disappointment. I'll still play them because I love the franchise and I do enjoy the core of the gameplay, but none have the same charm that super and zero mission had.

one of my favs from the golden era of psx squaresoft rpgs. sure they didn't fucking spoon feed you where to go to advance in the storylines (a plus in my book, fable pretty much killed this with the follow the golden trail bullshit) but every thing else was top notch, epic battle system with wonderful techs and combos. wide variety of character class that are unique from one another, intriguing albeit short stories (well there are seven of them so can't expect too much from one little cd) and enough cross over between them to make discoveries in one apply to the others. a magnificent game from an epic era that will never come again. seriously compare to the square/enix heyday of psx almost everything now is absolute shit, prettier yes, but still shit.

Great game but it is far from perfect. Think of the rerolling for stats at the beginning. The game pretty much makes you sit there for 30 minutes waiting for a better roll and adding the numbers up in your head. That and sacrificing characters to save others and the general weakness of mages make it less than perfect.

I have my own opinions, but I'm not such an idiot as to tell other people a game is perfect.
It's in the same boat with knowledge, there's always more to learn and keep improving apon for players and developers.
That being said, Super Metroid and Meta Gear Solid 3 are probably the best games out there to date.
