All the stupid bullshit in the US right now,
Trump
transgender
SJW
equality

And everyone forgets that there is a sleeping monster waiting to erupt at any day, or any time now.

And it will destroy a lot of the US and kill a lot of people, possibly sending the entire planet into a cold ashy winter wasteland for hundreds of years by spewing out so much ash it clouds the atmosphere and blocks much of the sunlight.

discuss.

It's active right now. It's the most active geological place on earth. The entire 42 mile park IS the caldera. It's previous eruption period was 11,000 years, and it hasn't erupted in 27,000 years.

A million years is a figure someone who knows dick pulled off a hat. We don't make predictions anywhere near that far out. ...or at all, really.

That ones not tearing new holes in the surface of the earth every few months.

Go to Yellowstone, and look at the parking lots that were open last month that are now closed because they're half underground, or the lakes that are different than they were in the spring because they're on a plate that tilted 12 feet up on one end over a few days.

Yellowstone is the bees fuckin knees.
>>
>>682695060
Long vally super volcano is also active.

Also the ISS says the chances of Yellowstone erupting anytime soon is exceedingly small given its past history

https://volcanoes.usgs.gov/volcanoes/yellowstone/yellowstone_sub_page_49.html

Also look up lake Toba

It's the largest known super volcano in the world, it's last eruption killed a large portion of the human species and made a genetic bottleneck in the human race.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lake_Toba
>>
>>682693574
Not the guy you are replying to. New poster in this thread.

Climate change is real and it is significant. Humans are a contributing factor in it (all life is, but humanity is leaving the biggest mark today).

I just hope you are one of the people that realizes on top of the fact that we haven't helped the environment, the Earth also naturally changes. Its a process. The Earth will be fine. Many other species will be killed off. Humanity will be killed off, of course.
but the Earth has a few billion more years before it shits the bed one last time. Its pretty indifferent to us.

Like. I respect that you care about all of this, but you must realize the futility of the whole thing, right?

The earth without complex life ain't shit nigga.
There are fucktons of dead planets to not give a fuck about without turning this into another one because one species is too stupid to prevent its own self destruction.
>>
Bunch of dumbasses in this thread. A vent wouldn't help relieve the pressure that matters. Eruptions are caused mainly by trapped gas bubbles in the viscous magma. Fortunately for you fags, most of the rhyolitic magma was blown out the last time it erupted. All that's left is mainly basaltic, which is funny and does not cause violent eruptions (think Hawaii).

Tldr; this supervolcano isn't a threat.

That's because the Caldera expands and contracts so the ground above it expands and contracks.

The USGS has stated their is no evidence it will erupt any time soon and given its past history it's unlikely to erupt for a long time.

Long vally however isn't as surface active but is classified as a bigger threat by the USGS, but even then it's chances of an eruption is very low any time soon.

In terms of probability we are more likely to face an damaging asteroid impact within our lifetime than a supervolcano eruption.

Hell their is a small chance the asteroid apophus will slam into us in the 2030s, it's small but it's much higher than Yellowstone erupting.

You're an uneducated dumb nigger,

First of all the chance of Yellowstone erupting in its current state is significantly low.

Secondly the WORST CASE SCENARIO is that we all have to move out of the northern hemisphere until the magmatic gasses and the harmful substances dissipate.

Humanity will survive this caldera,

I'd be more concerned about the flood basalts like the Siberian traps that almost caused the extinction of all life as we know rather than Yellowstone. .

Or blind thrust faults OR a solar storm knocking out our powergrid as a mayyer of fact.

We don't have shit anon.
We don't even have a detection program, we rely on backyard astronomers having sophisticated gear & sharing their data on their own to detect them.

Nuking an asteroid only means it dumps more radioactive dust on you when it hits you.

We don't have a spacecraft that can meet an asteroid far enough out to give it a gravity nudge.
>>
>>682696810
You will want to do reserch bud, nuking an asteroid will not stop it, it will break it up and cause the same mass to fall over a wider range causing more damage.

Nuclear weapons are bottom of the list when it comes to stopping asteroids.

The methods of choice are painting one side white to make it slowly push itself into a different orbit over the cource of years.

Useing a small spacecraft as a gravity tractor to slowly pull it out of its our ce over a few months

Putting an angina right on it and pushing it our of the way

Useing lasers to heat one side to push it away

Detonating a nuke next to it to heat one side (not advises for rubble pile adteroids)

Just shooting it is an awfule idea and any space agency, astronomer, or astrophysicist would tell you that.
>>
>>682696438
I'm saying I am confident that humanity will survive maybe one or two hundred years of the Earth's shit. But its going to destroy itself. We might not all be killed off at once. But I don't think our technology will take humanity beyond our Solar system before shit hits the fan. So whats the difference if we all drive around in our Hybrids or trucks. We will be dead to soon for it to have mattered.

And the Earth won't give a single fuck.
