All the stupid bullshit in the US right now,
And everyone forgets that there is a sleeping monster waiting to erupt at any day, or any time now.
And it will destroy a lot of the US and kill a lot of people, possibly sending the entire planet into a cold ashy winter wasteland for hundreds of years by spewing out so much ash it clouds the atmosphere and blocks much of the sunlight.
So what do you propose we do about it?
>Out of the ash zone.
Sucks to be you, Wyoming.
I say we take the volcano, and PUSH it somewhere else!
I'M COMING FOR YOUR BADGES AND THERE'S NOTHING YOU CAN DO TO STOP ME!
It looks like you're trying to write a coherent sentence.
Would you like some help?
What use is there to flip out over something that we literally have no control over? If Jellystone wants to shit pick-ik-nik baskets all over the world, I think all we can do is bend over.
>tfw all the Hipsters survive
deal with it. i'm in florida, i've got my own problems to deal with , pal. like meth trailers and elian gonzalez.
>why cant we just make a vent
>into some empty desert
>release the excess pressure
>sample and study everythig we pull out
Pressure is an easy fix op. Physics solved the problem years ago. Now we just have to apply what we learned
mfw Cascadia subduction zone tsunami and Yellowstone Volcano trigger in unison.
I just read A Brief History of Nearly Everything, by Bill Bryson, where he devotes a couple chapters to Yellowstone & what geologists studying it have to say about it... definitely cool fucking place, will be going to see s fall
Great book too; the chapters going through the the haphazard chaotic insane development of our modern scientific body of knowledge are hilarious and entertaining.
Current estimates place the Yellowstones next eruption at 1 - 2 million years from now.
Look up the long valley super volcano
It's bigger than Yellowstone and is the biggest supervolcano in North America.
Or the entire Western Hemisphere and 99% of the agriculture in the world and burying the rest of it in a deep layer of toxic ash.
Or something in between.
No way to tell for sure til it blows.
It's active right now. It's the most active geological place on earth. The entire 42 mile park IS the caldera. It's previous eruption period was 11,000 years, and it hasn't erupted in 27,000 years.
A million years is a figure someone who knows dick pulled off a hat. We don't make predictions anywhere near that far out. ...or at all, really.
Hey OP Yellowstone isn't even the biggest super volcano in North America
A bigger one lives in California.
Have fun not sleeping as you worry about events that won't happen for hundreds of thousands of years.
I still think we should build a wall around it.
>produces more than half of the fruits, vegetables and nuts grown in the United States
That ones not tearing new holes in the surface of the earth every few months.
Go to Yellowstone, and look at the parking lots that were open last month that are now closed because they're half underground, or the lakes that are different than they were in the spring because they're on a plate that tilted 12 feet up on one end over a few days.
Yellowstone is the bees fuckin knees.
Long vally super volcano is also active.
Also the ISS says the chances of Yellowstone erupting anytime soon is exceedingly small given its past history
Also look up lake Toba
It's the largest known super volcano in the world, it's last eruption killed a large portion of the human species and made a genetic bottleneck in the human race.
Not the guy you are replying to. New poster in this thread.
Climate change is real and it is significant. Humans are a contributing factor in it (all life is, but humanity is leaving the biggest mark today).
I just hope you are one of the people that realizes on top of the fact that we haven't helped the environment, the Earth also naturally changes. Its a process. The Earth will be fine. Many other species will be killed off. Humanity will be killed off, of course.
but the Earth has a few billion more years before it shits the bed one last time. Its pretty indifferent to us.
Like. I respect that you care about all of this, but you must realize the futility of the whole thing, right?
>all these people thinking they'll be safe because they are outside the secondary ash zone
>not knowing about the year without a summer and the little ice age
when Yellowstone erupts, all civilization will be fucked
billions will die due to crop failures
millions will die of lung problems from inhaling fine particulates
The earth without complex life ain't shit nigga.
There are fucktons of dead planets to not give a fuck about without turning this into another one because one species is too stupid to prevent its own self destruction.
Bunch of dumbasses in this thread. A vent wouldn't help relieve the pressure that matters. Eruptions are caused mainly by trapped gas bubbles in the viscous magma. Fortunately for you fags, most of the rhyolitic magma was blown out the last time it erupted. All that's left is mainly basaltic, which is funny and does not cause violent eruptions (think Hawaii).
Tldr; this supervolcano isn't a threat.
That's because the Caldera expands and contracts so the ground above it expands and contracks.
The USGS has stated their is no evidence it will erupt any time soon and given its past history it's unlikely to erupt for a long time.
Long vally however isn't as surface active but is classified as a bigger threat by the USGS, but even then it's chances of an eruption is very low any time soon.
In terms of probability we are more likely to face an damaging asteroid impact within our lifetime than a supervolcano eruption.
Hell their is a small chance the asteroid apophus will slam into us in the 2030s, it's small but it's much higher than Yellowstone erupting.
To be honest i hope this shit happens. Heres how i envision it'll go down
>Yellowstone errupts and kills millions of people- basically a natural unpredictable nuke on American soil
>The middle East seizes this opportunity and starts WW3
>Trump assumes role of Hitler to unify America against the shitskin middle east, becomes high chancellor Trump
>Putin is given free reign to annex defenseless countries as long as he helps Trump win the war
>American-Russian relations are finally rekindled after decades.
>War economy fuels a golden age for Russia and America
>Mudslimes eradicated, Mecca bombed
>America invades Mexico to regain it's lost territory with the help of professional Russian kebab removers
>Maps redrawn all over the place
>Plenty of jobs, great economy
>Justice long in the making against the middle east
>The only backlash is a giant crater on a relatively mildly inhabited part of mountainland, america and cloudy weather for a few months
I see no downside
Yeah Toba's cool.
Fuck California. Best thing for it would be all its volcanoes and faultlines go simulblast and take it to the bottom of the sea.
Maybe Nevada will do a better job at being a coastal state.
>possibly sending the entire planet into a cold ashy winter wasteland for hundreds of years
Good. Our species suck donkey shit tbh.
so vwe vill make ROBOT LUNGS! und ROBOT CROPS!
i hope it happens. then i can live out my fallout /s.t.a.l.k.e.r. wasteland fantasy.
You're an uneducated dumb nigger,
First of all the chance of Yellowstone erupting in its current state is significantly low.
Secondly the WORST CASE SCENARIO is that we all have to move out of the northern hemisphere until the magmatic gasses and the harmful substances dissipate.
Humanity will survive this caldera,
I'd be more concerned about the flood basalts like the Siberian traps that almost caused the extinction of all life as we know rather than Yellowstone. .
Or blind thrust faults OR a solar storm knocking out our powergrid as a mayyer of fact.
fucking THIS. This is what we're all REALLY after.
We don't have shit anon.
We don't even have a detection program, we rely on backyard astronomers having sophisticated gear & sharing their data on their own to detect them.
Nuking an asteroid only means it dumps more radioactive dust on you when it hits you.
We don't have a spacecraft that can meet an asteroid far enough out to give it a gravity nudge.
You will want to do reserch bud, nuking an asteroid will not stop it, it will break it up and cause the same mass to fall over a wider range causing more damage.
Nuclear weapons are bottom of the list when it comes to stopping asteroids.
The methods of choice are painting one side white to make it slowly push itself into a different orbit over the cource of years.
Useing a small spacecraft as a gravity tractor to slowly pull it out of its our ce over a few months
Putting an angina right on it and pushing it our of the way
Useing lasers to heat one side to push it away
Detonating a nuke next to it to heat one side (not advises for rubble pile adteroids)
Just shooting it is an awfule idea and any space agency, astronomer, or astrophysicist would tell you that.
I'm saying I am confident that humanity will survive maybe one or two hundred years of the Earth's shit. But its going to destroy itself. We might not all be killed off at once. But I don't think our technology will take humanity beyond our Solar system before shit hits the fan. So whats the difference if we all drive around in our Hybrids or trucks. We will be dead to soon for it to have mattered.
And the Earth won't give a single fuck.
So what if there's very little food? That means we also solve the fat people problem.
I'll be stopping by in 2036
Hope you guys arn't in my way.
anyone who says they don't want it to happen is lying to themselves. sure, people would die. sure, it would suck terribly. but it would be the adventure of a lifetime.
I'm more for human progress not living our an unrealistic video game fantasy.
Besides fat neckbeards like yourself would die first.
You think it would be some fallout type thing when in reality it would be refugee camps and sharing a Porto potty with 3000 other people.
The previous eruptions have not been anywhere near that large. The one you're projecting from occurred 200k years ago. The caldera is running out of energy and future eruptions will be even smaller.
are you that dumb or your extra stupid ?
there where programs in research for years there are more then enough programs to deflect it deal with it if need
also there are more then fucking gazillion programs about asteroid searching in every major country
and lets dont talk many ppl who doit for hobby
asteroid with 1 km and over is easy to detect in this days
if there is asteroid problem this are small once which can kill off a city
that you live in a fucking cave is your god dam problem
only major problem we have this days is fast climate change human fucking up stuff and super volcanos
To worry about things you can not control is to be like the cat that hides under the bed during a thunder storm. Will Op also require a can of food later, perhaps OP would like his own box to defecate in.
OP is a Fag.
Funding was repeatedly proposed for the early detection program, but congress never approved it even once.
Maybe for your next act, you can tell biologists that we've been cloning humans for years, and they'll all believe you because none of them will be familiar with the human cloning saga at all.
correct me if I'm wrong, but seeds dont need light for their first while, they have their germination period during which the seed provides energy, and 2 inches of new soil won't cover most plants that are out of their germination other than maybe smallish shrubs or grasses
USA (may say government) aren't the world faggot they are enough ppl who fund things like that
its all done the plans for the laser and the push car (like i like to call it ) all ready done in need they can be build
also the Russians and Chinese have they are own programs and researches which are kept in more secret
if you dont remember when the ebola panic hited Russia was the first one who had a working vaccine (they probably had it for years)
So I was a buddhist at heart after all.
I never saw the reasoning behind people worrying over things they have no control over.
>Living in Georgia
>only slightly worried
I plan to move out of the country soon anyway.
