On the show (I stopped watching yeeears ago but still) some pokes will make two or three attacks before their opponent even gets a chance to take a fucking breath. The Nintendo 64 as a whole is pretty shit now. Excellent for its time and lots of nostalgia value, but that doesn't change how poorly it aged. Controllers are terrible, graphics are terrible, early attempts at controls in 3D environment are terrible.
The best redeeming quality I can think of really applies to all old consoles, and that's the lack of reliance on an internet connection. Plug and play.

Don't know OPs story or age but he's right. FFVII sucked. 31 year old reporting in. VIII was much better, VI was also worlds better. Graphics don't even factor in. Story was junk, materia system paled in comparison to the Esper system and Junctions....only good thing to come out of FFVII was Vincent, Tifa porn, and One Winged Angel remixes.
I feel so sorry for you guys, I enjoyed a lot of the games that are being hated on. FFVII I played on release in 97 so I understand it's shitty these days. Some games stand the test of time but the graphics are painful as fuck now and the mechanics have been improved in later games. many of the newer games mentioned I've had a lot of fun with. I've been a gamer for 25 years and I'd rather be easily pleased than think I'm cool hating stuff other people like.

FF7 had a, widely accepted, incredible story. The characterisation was fantastic, each character had a point and a reason to be there. Compare that to 6? The story had a bit of everything, it was incredibly touching and created such an emotive atmosphere.

Junctioning just basically meant, now I can't use the rarest / best magic because I need every last one for my character and don't wanna fuck his stats up. Drawing 100 spells for each thing was tedious and boring, it wasn't even like grinding, it was inane. I basically never used a GF, they just didn't compare to standard attacks. You could spam limit breaks by keeping your health in critical, and could beat virtually every single enemy in the game by spamming Zell's limit break. It was incredibly broken.
I did like 8, I also loved 6 (4, 9 and 10 also - the rest all dog shit), however 7 had that spark that created such a huge following. It flowed brilliantly, the story developed perfectly. The music was incredible and by far the best in the series. Materia was simplistic, but was exciting to get the new levels up in it.
It hasn't aged well, newbie gamers can't take to it for that reason, but at the time of release it was utterly groundbreaking - it's mini games were as good as full PS1 releases at the time, it's widely regarded as the greatest game of all time and I agree with it.
I don't believe we'll ever see a game have that sort of effect again, due to the money now involved in gaming, it's more about impressing the masses and appealing to their base instincts.
