I've never really been the question-asking type. I tend to find others' advise trite and inapplicable. I feel without a full life-time's context the only people who one can readily give advice to are sheep corralled into common problems with known solutions. Otherwise giving any advice is disregarding their life situation and either disrespectful or ignorant.
My method has always involved spending a LOT of time meditating on my problems, helping others as a minor distraction so I don't get too focused on a single dead-end train of thought, and openly sharing my problems with anyone willing to listen to a 3-4 hour story. Although no one has managed to help me after hearing my story to this day, I have no shame in sharing. If nothing else it might help them put their own life in perspective.
Unfortunately these threads start too late at night so I've never had 3-4 hours here. Plus no one on 4chan has an attention span that long.

I know how it feels, though. Just a few months ago, I was lonely and almost fell for the wrong person just for the sake of feeling. After you've had a couple more "real" loves, you'll learn that you can't really make it work until you're 100% okay with being on your own, that way you don't lose yourself. People who lose themselves in their partner become clingy, or worse, they settle for a toxic relationship.
My advice is to either start putting yourself out there and conversing with girls. You can either approach them as friends or as potential dates, and it's a good idea to get accustomed to doing both. But as soon as you decide you're really interested in one, pursue her. Get to know her interests and then ask her on a date.
You might date several dozen people before you meet the one who's gonna work out, and that's okay. The point of dating is to weed out the ones who won't last, not to get a fast track to the one as some people like to think.

What happened was a girl I used to be friends with a long time ago ended up being in my high school classes and we ended up doing a lot of projects together and joking around. A lot of people said I should ask her on a date and being your typical 4channer was to shay and said "maybe"
Well it was the last year of high school and never had a GF. I decided to grow some balls and ask her via email saying " A lot of people say we should be together. Maybe we can try that if you want to?" She came to me the next day and said yes. I was so happy. I would later regret everything.
Before it started out good. We both agreed to take it slow, we went to the movies... and on one more date that same week before she just started to ignore me. It was always this or that that was going on. Talked over skype the most but during the 1 and a half months we were together we probably only spent 8 hours or less physically close to each other. I was getting worried.
The week before I had enough I tried to put my arm around her and she said "not now". Thats when I knew it was time to end it. the only romantic thing she did was a quick kiss on the cheek which I wish she never did. I'm glad I never said I love you.
I later found out she dated one of my friends and the same thing happened but lasted longer.

What I do is try to make myself a better person and think a lot about philosophy. Achieve enlightenment if you believe in that. Set personal goals to become better. Also help and hang out around the people I do care about.

Well, people are mostly like you. They see what's going on and they have no idea what to do about it. So they live the best they can and try to carve out a little happiness however they can. Sometimes that leads to conflicts and mistakes.
