Installing Tails on USB:

Then, while your laptop is powered down, plugin the USB thumb drive. When it is starting up, select the boot device (you might have to look up depending on your laptop manufacture; sometimes it is the F12 key and sometimes the Del key).
Choose the USB as your boot device.
Tails will then load. Connect to the WiFi network (this, again, could be searched for online) then you're golden.
Sounds lot a lot of work, but it's pretty straight forward once you do it once.

Get tails installed on a USB drive and boot from there, just having TOR isn't enough to keep you safe, plus never, ever enable Java or download shit from untrusted sites.
