Thus you hear every year that its the warmest on record even if the increase is so slight that its within the margin of error and you see nature specials with polar bears perched on melting icebergs even though the damned things populations have actually been increasing.

Another possibility is to reprocess the waste into plutonium, which can then be used again in nuclear energy. As for hurting people, look at nuclear plant incidents in the US. In every case where there was a fatality, except one, the only person who was killed was killed by contacting an electric line. Even three mile island was extremely small. Very small amounts of nuclear material was released, and nobody was injured or killed. The only large nuclear disasters have been outside of the US where nuclear power regulations are more lax.
