This is WoW in 2016
RIP WOW
thats not wow, thats just shit
I hope this fuckin petition for the return of vanilla server gonna work
To put it in perspective...
WoW in 2004-2008 (before WOTLK fixed most of the retarded design decisions of the WoW team):
- Exclusively tank & spank boss design (sometimes with a small twist in TBC)
- Half the specs not viable
- Autistic grind for gear
- Massive amounts of time wasted on travel because no RDF (or flying mounts pre BC)
- Tutorial parts of the game (leveling) took literally weeks so you could get to the relevant parts of the game
- No balance in PVP - Vanilla didn't even have arena yet some classes managed to be completely worthless in PVP, and TBC arena is unarguably the worst state competitive PVP has ever been in
- Fucking boring as hell quest design - nigga you really expect be to read all dis flavor text shit?
- Boring-ass classes with 1 button "rotations" any retard could play successfully
- Stupid as hell itemization with spirit one every item and agility on plate, what the fuck were they thinking?
Vanilla babbys are truly the worst.

>>680802854
The fact that you call the leveling part a tutorial makes me sad. My first leveling experiance was fun as fuck even with grindy quests. Cant imagine how fast i would uninstall this shit now that every fag is running around in heirlooms ruining every dungen right from the start
>>680803707
>heirlooms
THIS.
I hate that fucking bullshit. Every dungeon has become crap.
>>680803636
This. I was on my way out the door with Cata, but MoP was the final straw (and it's only gotten worse since then). The game is pure garbage and I sincerely don't understand how anyone can stand to play it, let alone pay a monthly subscription for it.

Shit is basically baby mode, I came back and played a little WoD a few months back
So trash, got to level 20 in my first day,pvp sucked balls, it was down to being a fucking moba, and dungeons were pretty much shit
>>680801095
It all went to shit after Cata tbh.
>>680802854
You realize leveling was a core part of the game, right? WoW is a journey, in some way raiding in level 60 is basically the same as at level 30. The journey goes from being level 1 to end-game tuned and completed all dungeons. Whoever decided that leveling shouldn't be a part of the game is hands down retarded.

no they are not. and that is the problem. Blizzard think everyone is retarded. but infact people are now way more used to games with great depth.
People now know how to min / max etc. in vanilla wow people used wasd to turn around and mouse click attacks.
Anyway it makes no sense how blizzard tries to dumb down the game so much since people really do not need it to be simplified. it was needed more back when wow released in 2004. lol

The only people who thought this way in 2004 were children and stay-at-home moms who had never played an MMO before.
Leveling was always a tedious grind that existed purely to milk as much subscription money out of scrubs as humanly possible.
I can only speak for myself, but I have never played a game like this for the purpose of exploring it's world and going on adventures. The world is static and the quests are painfully transparent busywork. If I wanted a game that felt immersive and exciting I'd play a single player or small scale co-op game that had stuff like freedom of choice when interacting with NPCs and the world around me and, oh I don't know, fucking collision detection.
>>680807971
>I can only speak for myself, but I have never played a game like this for the purpose of exploring it's world and going on adventures
As you said, you can only speak for yourself. I suggest you look up Bartle's player type theory, which explains the motivations of different types of players of MUDs and MMOs in a pretty general manner.
Speaking of which, anyone wanna play WoW with a faggot wearing this today?
Started playing recently and have no friends

>>680807952
or they are logging every entry, kill, chat log like a normal company would and just searching their master list from details from the screenshot. Their advanced methods are a cover-up for them just tracking the shit out of everything.
>>680808370
Good boy.
>>680808348
I'm familiar with it but I don't fit a type, I seek what suits me based on my mood and the game in question. My point is that there are infinitely better games to explore and adventure in than an MMO with an onslaught of cookie-cutter quests, little to no interaction with the world or the people in it, and a facerolling combat system.
Some people like to take a 4x4 off-roading, some people like to take a finely tuned sports car to a racetrack, but if you're taking a 4x4 to the racetrack and having a blast, odds are it's because you just don't know any better.
I quit wow in mop when i get a 3 day ban for killing people flagged as pvp in the world.
There was a group of people, most likely scrubs who i was following across the leveling zones(i was the same lever range as them).
I mean like wtf, is world people not allowed?
When i leveled if i was pvp flagged it was an all out battle leveling, a rush of adrenelne walking around the zone, waiting to get ganked or to rap e some wanna be. Totally casual enforced
Feenix was good when it was still alive. Vanilla had sense of community.
>you will never summon boss in av
Current wow is just easymode for kids.
Wpvp was the best part of vanilla. Never got bans.
I won mount by winning last man standing event at gurubashi. Elemental shaman with bis naxx gear is pretty funny in vanilla pvp. 1vsx was no problem.

PW was fun as fire mage because vanilla had old rolling ignites which would stack so just one mage would get all dmg(and threat). Crazy ignite ticks could continue for minutes, but usually threat cap forced us to drop ignite and pass it to somebody else.

Dickheads wearing nostalgia goggles needtofuckright off. The ONLY reason WoW was"awesome" back in the day was because it was NEW. I don't worry about these cunts gettinglegacy servers though, their cause is led by a PROVEN liar and idiot in Mark Kern and a silly littlespoitl fuckboi calle Chance Morris. Got to admire that Sodapoppin queer tho, he milks you dumb cunts for 1000s of $ a day WHEN HE IS ALREADY A SPOILT RICH KID due to his families money. General playerbase in private vanilla server was pretty mature because most of the players had played vanilla back in the days. Now retail wow is full of kids who want everything right now and blizz gives it to them.
>>680802854
-you say WOTLK fixed design decisions but that's when their numbers started dropping...
-many bosses had complex and unique mechanics that required the entire raid to know what to do; yes they got a bit more in depth later on, but that's one small point.
-by not viable, they were just less than ideal at certain roles. you can still play them and do fine. yes, in naxx and hardcore content you needed to play to your class's strong points, but that made sense to a lot of people, instead of just making it so easy that everything works
-difficult grinds make for a more rewarding experience. making things easier takes the fun away.
-no flying mounts and teleporting...people were forced to explore the world of warcraft....wow...."time wasted"
-leveling isn't the tutorial part of the game....it's half of the game itself.
-PvP was rock/paper/scissor based but not entirely unbalanced, of course some classes were better, but no class was "useless". and lots of people prefer it. also, remember that thing world PvP? that was pretty cool
-the newer quests have fancier animations...but the old quests were challenging, and many required grouping up. not sure why you think they were boring.
-they've been reducing the number of skills in wow....so...? ..also the game's been made easier all around and old WoW requires understanding the math/numbers/matchups for your class
-random items were fun, disenchant them, or use them, you could say the nature resist random greens were worthless before AQ came out and suddenly people needed NR sets. they allow for specialization and fun.
Old WoW was a more challenging game back then, and didn't have convenient tools to teleport into dungeons or skip content. And since it was challenging, people had to group up to overcome challenges, communicate to pass game knowledge on to newer players, form guilds and organize (40 man!) raids. It was so fun.

me and many of my friends have been playing vanilla wow and tbc exclusively on private servers since 2010~
personally I haven't played for more than 6 months or so at a time, but I always get very into it, it's the same raids and whatnot but i'd find new guilds on new servers / projects
the game forces you to make friends to do 5mans, you even end up creating networks of friends to get ready for raids at max level (gear up in ubrs for example), and then you gotta create a community (guild) or join one if you want to raid at end game level
thats what an mmo is suppose to be
tbc still had this sense of community, because of gameplay i prefer vanilla (its just hilarious, i don't care much about who has 0.0001 reaction time like a elite god)
for me personally this aspect kind of died out in and around tbc which is why i gradually switched over to private servers, i felt i would log on wotlk wow and just queue up for stuff, didn't like it so i quit :/
i would say you're entitled to your view but it's actually retarded and you're wrong. vanilla wow is a great game enjoyed by many
>>680819997
i think everyone agrees that the introduction of LFR etc killed off the most important part of WoW. there is no server community these days, no guild loyalty, no need to make friends etc. as Towelliee the streamer and others pointed out you can literally log in and do everything the game has to offer in your own garrison, it's really remarkable they thought garrisons were a good idea. that's the thing i'm most saddened about.
Bunch of neck beard faggots arguing with each other.
Good thread.
X-realm stuff killed the community feeling. I loved playing on private server because I would meet same people every day in battlegrounds or raids. You would know who's the good player and who's the bad.
I quit retail back in TBC when we killed illidan and sunwell was still months away. I got disappointed how blizz constantly nerfed everything and made game easier for kids.
In vanilla you really had to work for gear. I spent more time farming consumables for naxx than raiding itself.

>>680824591
Consumables in vanilla could stack a lot. I could use 4 different potions at once on my mage + several foodbuffs + flask and all of them would stack. Also we had to chainpot so we wouldnt run out of mana. Not forgetting 10-15 protection pots for every raid. Tryhards would use scrolls on top of all that. Everything costed a lot or took long time farming.
I spent half of epic mount(500g in vanilla) for every raid.
Cthun was great too. One player could chainkill whole raid at the pull and you would die if u came close to others because dmg from cthun beam doubled during each jump. We had kills where whole raid would soulstone themselves(lvl 20 warlock outside AQ gates was mandatory) and use them when P2 started.
AQ40 had horrible trash mobs. It was more pain than bosses themselves.

This.
Anyone that disagrees is some WotLK babby that tries to pretend that the game was best when/before they began.
Vanilla was a fucking mess and TBC only fixed things slightly.
>Most specs are useless
>Most rotations are literally spamming 1-2 buttons with maybe a timer to click every few minutes
>Only 1 viable tank class: Warrior
>No way for casters to increase their damage at all until they eventually get raid gear with spell damage on it
>Raid bosses are spank-and-tanks with no mechanics beyond "don't stand in the fire" and "use decursive to spam a cure for 3 minutes straight"
>PVP ranking involves grinding out honor all day every day at high ranks. To get from rank 13 to 14 you need to come in top 10 on the server to even move up a little bit. Takes three weeks coming in at top 1 to do it.
>Most classes suck in PVP, others are too good
>Itemization is a mess with near useless stats on everything
>Classes pigeonholed into healing by their raid gear's stats
>No dugeon finder + shit dungeon gear = hours long LFG fests that wind up with the group breaking up after you wipe once half way into UBRS
The only people that disagree are either people that literally did not play then, people that were like 9 when it was out or those with their nostalgia goggles on so fucking tight they don't actually remember it accurately at all.
I was 20 when WoW launched. I got it day one. I was consistently a top raider for all of vanilla and TBC. I got to Grand Marshall on my human paladin.
The game is infinitely better now than it ever was then.
Current wow will never experience community feeling or real wpvp.
That's reason enough why vanilla is better and will always be.
World bosses were best because fights around them could last for hours.
There is no way to experience vanilla wow anymore?

>a game where the devs actually give a shit about the core userbase
wowcucks everyone
WoW will never stop being appealing to some people (like you, for example, you goddamn loser), because it's more than a game to them; it's an escape, a fantasy world where nothing matters, nothing but the game....

WoW was at it's best in TBC. People don't understand what they wanted and complained. Blizzard slowly relented and made it easier and easier on each subsequent expansion. Now the game is essentially a variety of menus and options. Remember how awesome the opening of AQ was?

More epicness!

Dont
I play Tera, which is mostly a dress-up game with some MMO elements at this point. It's an easy as fuck game, no real challenges until end game. Without fail though, every new player in one of my beginner guilds who came from WoW feels like the game is needlessly complex and difficult to play. Every MMO is getting easier and easier to play but apparently WoW players have been getting coddled
>>680805796
>>>people keept playing because they where immersed in a world and felt a sense of progression with every level
damn right. low level PvP was very fun with friends.

>i p-promise vanilla sucked
>meanwhile, private Vanilla servers outperform retail
>are forced to shut down because blizzard jews insist on making their shitty clickbait scam the only available version of the game

That nostalgy feel

>The game is infinitely better now than it ever was then.
no, it's not. the game's main selling point was community. most people on here crying about the "good old days" are people that just miss playing with their friends. that's what wow was about, playing with friends. the game is a pale shadow of what it once was... an online community of friends... rivals.. it's nothing now, nothing but memories and nostalgia best left forgotten

Glad I left when mists of pandaria came out, sucks such a impacting game has fallen this low, I'll never forget Cataclysm personally my favorite expansion
Random AV memory from BC
>Join AV
>Some guy named Ramstein joins
>"WE WILL WIN! I AM RAM!"
>"RAM DOES NOT LOSE"
>He's some mediocre geared Ele Shaman that wants to turtle
>"RAM WILL TURTLE"
>Captures SFGY and we create a turtle to their base
>The Ele Sham is just standing in the front for some reason
>"HEAL THE RAM!"
>We win by an utter landsldie and he has the most KBs/Damage Done by a large margin
>"THE RAM WINS!"
>The game's over
I wish I had that much joy or passion for something.

pls stop posting fucking retard private servers and shit. private server raiding and actual vanilla raiding were completely different things. hurr durr me like naxx40 XD but i did it on a pserver 9 years after it was released and everyone already knows the content and has a hugely higher skill level than actual vanilla raiding XD
My last post of the day. Long live <Kaamos>

I play both. If you max on runescape.. there's nothing left to do. Except get more experience or more money. As a wow player the game doesn't even start until you hit max level.
Also, I started playing 2 weeks before BC launched. I enjoyed BC.. did the first tier of raiding. I spent most of it leveling cuz 1-70 took me at least 6 months. I also liked late Wrath. ICC/tournament were both alot of fun. Early cata was good, hated dragon soul. Siege of orgrimmar was my favorite point in this game. People complain the game is too easy at this point. Well, if you do nothing but LFR that's probably the case. But believe it or not, there are guilds that do the shit that's hard. I would never say my grind to 14/14 heroic/mythic was easy. SoO and ICC were my favorite raids.
Now.. this expansion has truly been pretty shitty. I didn't like highmaul. BRF was strictly Meh.. and HFC is the best... but still not really that great. It's difficult. But meh.
I was a beta tester for vanilla WoW. My best friend had an uncle who worked at Blizzard, and he got my older brother and I an invite. I was in 6th grade when I started playing, so I grew up with that game. I leveled a gnome warlock on Destromath with a lot of my friends. It took me a long time to get to 60, but it was so satisfying. I would sometimes just explore the world. I loved the little stories that Blizzard planted all over the place, and I enjoyed the lack of a single overarching storyline. It really was the *world* of Warcraft that I was experiencing. At the time, the sheer scale and detail was incredible. My friends and I would sometimes go adventuring just so we could see the world and what was in it.
I'll never forget my first time running through Ashenvale, killing Onyxia, or joining a guild. The game always made me feel like a small part of something bigger, and I really enjoyed that. I was just one little guy in an enormous world. One of my favorite memories was making enemies with another Horde player on the server. She was an orc hunter named Tyrande. Had a mountain lion for a pet. We somehow kept ending up in the same Warsong Gulch matches, and started to recognize the other. We found each other out in the world more than a few times, too. Whenever we found the other, we would quickly drop everything and fight (PvP server). I never spoke to her (probably a him), but felt a really satisfying connection.
After Burning Crusade came out, I was getting ready for a dungeon in Hellfire and saw her again. She'd reached 70 before me and gotten her flying mount. We fired a few attacks at each other without killing and exchanged a few emotes, and it made me feel like a little adventurer again. The world was big, I was small, but there I was with a genuine connection to another person who I would never talk to.
I quit during WotLK. The game just hadn't evolved enough to hold my interest, and most of my friends had left. But I do miss those days sometimes.

Don't ever go back. I did, wanted to see if any of my old guildies or buddies still played. I don't know what I was expecting, but it was a soul-crushing experience that I'd never want to go though again.
