When I was 18 I went to a shrink and she said that I didnt have ADHD, I just had PTSD.

Teacher here. From talking with child psychologists, a lot of times kids will be diagnosed with ADHD even when they're just assholes because that allows the schools to give extra attention for that student to help "fix" him. Without the ADHD or other label, you can't put the student in a behavioral issues classroom or hire a teacher aide to follow him around all day and correct him every time he acts like an asshole. It's almost a loophole in a way that helps teachers get extra support for their asshole students.

I was constantly freaking out out of nowhere, tried to kill myself, becoming angry over seemingly nothing at all.
I could sit and have a normal conversation and suddenly just stand up and hit someone in the face and then laugh it off. So I sort of understand the ADHD thing.
I was raped 4 times when I was a child. I also grew up in a house where getting knocked uncounsious by my 6 years older brother was a regular thing. He also tried to drown me a few times with my older sister watching and laughing.

I'm 35 and remember the late 80s when the MPD fad hit.
Shortly thereafter the recovered memories fad hit and everyone was 'recovering' memories of being sexually abused by their fathers and/or satanic cults.

I memorized 314 numbers of pi in sixth grade for some contest in my class. Also my test scores are always perfect. PTSD is a real mental illness I have it myself. I got shot twice and layed in my own blood dying next to my friend who got shot and died in the same shooting. It doesn't give any real flashbacks or make me freak out, but it stays with you where you feel in danger often as if it might happen again. Once you go through serious trauma your brain takes it on as something that might happen again and it quite often puts you in a flight or fight when things trigger it. Like a panic attack, it puts you in a state of alert and you mentally feel like youre in that traumatic experience again. Given this is real PTSD and not some bullshit people like to think they have because something minor made them feel afraid. ex. That guy who rear ended my car gave me PTSD.

I agree ADHD is overly diagnosed but it is real, funny thing is I had ADHD when I was younger but since going off wheat forcefully thanks to my ciliac Ive hardly noticed it anymore.
I don't think that would help with others but diet is a factor. Like how some kids drink cola drinks every fucking day and also take meds because they can't sit still, stop giving them the cola drinks and the meds will probably not be needed.
tl;dr a lot if ADHD cases can be managed by experimenting with diet but most perents just get meds right away because it's esier.
I hate meds, I was on meds to help with an anxiety disorder (also not real I know blah blah blah) but I got help with it, talked to a councilor and have been makeing an effort abd now I'm off the meds abs never want to go back on. People who take meds for depression or anxiety for years arn't solving the problem, the meds only help but are not a cure.
