There is nothing sinister or dark about Freemasonry, you get invited in by a member, you go through an initiation that involves a gatekeeper who announces your arrival.

And that is it.
Then you have usually monthly meetings at the least, and it is about fundraising, new positions for people (chaplain etc) and of course promotions.
Everyone starts at 1st degree and work their way up.
