If earth is flat, where's the edge?
>>
You can observe the curvature of the earth from a plane or any higher vehicle. Further, you can witness the effect of the curvature as buildings and ships' masts will appear to rise/sink against the horizon as your distance to them varies. Also, VHF/UHF FM radio. Radio waves travel on and on. The reason it has limited range is line of sight, as it does not penetrate ground well. If the world was flat you'd be able to communicate with anyone on FM regardless of location so long as you had an antenna of only moderate height. Look at your nearest TV/Radio tower and note the height, trust me, it's not just that tall for fun - it's that tall to gain range b/c the world is round pal.
>>
A lot of flat earthers don't believe in Gravity. Do you also not believe in magnetism?

Illustration of Radio example. Real life on the left, flat world on the right. Sticks are radio towers, diagonal lines are radio signal propagation. On the right side I put a smaller antenna tower, that while not as tall as the first, it's antenna still reaches over the horizon to receive so the first tower's signal can be picked up - I also had it re-broadcast for fun.

I was a flat earther for like a weekend.

You have to work under the assumption that the moon landings were faked and that nasa is prepared to lie (which is something I still think to be true). Also, that the government is more than prepared to lie to the american public for reasons (which again, I don't disagree with).

With that said, the evidence to support a flat earth is interesting to say the least - my favorite being that you can see further using a telescope than what the curvature of the earth would allow- or that in an airplane, the horizon line is not lower, but instead stays at eye-level.

With that said, this was the video that really shook me up and proved to me 100% that it is all a psyop or some kind of massive trolling.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_G7H6jAEdKE

If you have half a brain cell and watch the whole thing, you can easily see the cracks in the argument and the rhetoric used by people actively trying to manipulate you.

sorry op, I am not able to argue against you, but I hope that it is of interest.

tl;dr Flat earth is surprisingly coherent as a theory, but the more you look into it, the more you can see that there is something fishy going on and that they are intentionally misleading.

I don't think you know the difference between a theory and a theorem. And there is a square root of 5 it's just an irrational number. Do you not believe in irrational numbers? So pi isn't a thing right? The amount of times the diameter can go into the circumference is exactly three right? Not 3.14159265358979.... And "just a theory" oh man. "Rational people don't accept theories as fact" Actually yes, yes they do.

So you're saying that this is still a theorem and yet it's been proved?

Don't forget it's the masons that started the round earth nonsense.

>>679955050
So jet fuel can't prove round earth?
>>
>>679957714
Your argument is invalid. It wouldn't be a theorem if it didn't have proof. It would be a hypothesis or an idea. Theories and theorems are called so because they have proof supporting them and nothing negating them as of yet. That is what the word pretty much means. It is a truth established by a means of accepted truths. The only reason it isn't a law is because it isn't self evident
>>
>>679957898
So why didn't Mason's start making flat earth maps instead of globes?
>>
>>679957607
How do you account for the fact that the theorem was meant for triangles, but the earth is round?
This makes one side of the triangle curved, and thus the theory shouldn't be applied to it. Seriously. The curved side can be measured (b squared) but this shortens the overall length of a squared (which can't be measured accurately anyways, it is the fucking sky) and the whole calculation is fucked.

You CAN NOT have a curved side of the triangle in this equation. It only works on 3 sided triangles with FLAT SIDES.

It simply wasn't accounting for the extra length on side a which distends the entire calculation.

>>
Assuming that you discount actual pictures of the fucking planet being a sphere as taken from space telescopes, satellites and astronauts then it is still a fucking stupid theory.

IF, the earth was flat, there'd be an edge and history would be replete with pictures of the edge, and what is over the edge. There would be stories of ships that went over, documented missions to find what is over the edge and underneath the planet. There would be a million photos from people who have flown over and around the edge.

We would have no oceans because all of the water would have drained away..

There is no logical reason for anyone to cover up the truth that Earth is flat, what possible reason is there from keeping up the lie that the Earth is round?

Also, how do you keep this a secret for so long? Once more than 1 person knows a secret it is virtually impossible to keep it that way. Were the earth to be actually flat then the amount of people required to keep the secret would be millions, all the world leaders, scientists, astronauts, airline pilots, people living near the edges. With thousands/millions in on the secret it would be impossible to maintain.

>>
>>679962182
Okay let's assume the Earth is a sphere (which it is) and the measurements for it being a sphere at correct (which they are). The radius of the earth is roughly 3,965 miles. And you are going 1 mile in any direction. So that is your A and your B. The drop of earth is what you get for C minus A. In other words C-A= drop for every mile. So let's do the math. (3965^2) + (1^2) = C^2. 15,721,225 + 1 = C^2. 15,721,226= C^2. C= 3,965.0001261034. (C) - 3,965= 0.0001261034 miles. There are 63,360 inches in a mile so (C-A)*63,360= 7.99 inches . And there you go although I didn't have exact numbers I still got a number around 8 inches for every mile.

If anyone truly belives the Earth is flat (which is unlikely outside of heavy mental ilness) I have some projects for you.

Build a weather balloon and get pictures of it yourself, hundreds if not thosands of people have done it as its cheap and easy

http://m.instructables.com/id/How-to-Construct-a-Weather-Balloon/

Pic related, people have sent toys, food, plants, dildo and in this case a sex doll on them.

Or

Buy a telescope, wait for the ISS to fly over and see the space station for your self.

I have done this twice, it's REALLY bright as it passes over.

You can track the ISS in real time here

http://www.isstracker.com/

You can also watch the ISS live feed it's 24/7 with the ocasionaly blackout due to orbit.

http://www.ustream.tv/channel/live-iss-stream

You now have the power to see for your self if it's flat or round, but if you choose to not see for your self and ignore I ever sugested these 2 VERY easy options that's up to you but if you do avoid seeing for your self with your own eyes you need to ask your self what are you afraid of?

a²+b²=c², where c is the hypotenuse. Theerefore the hypotenuse is always greater length than either of toe other 2 sides, unless the length of 1 side is 0.
Therefore the calculation you are looking for is b=√ (c²-a²)
=√ (27,878,400-27,878,400)

You have to use the circumference to calculate the radius, sorry I misspoke, but using the number you're trying to calculate (unknown) to calculate the number you're trying to figure out (same unknown) makes no sense.

All you need to know that the planet isn't flat is this:

1: Anyone can purchase an airplane
2: Anyone can purchase a camera
3: Someone would have found the edge of the planet and taken a picture of it.
4: Virtually all telecommunications wouldn't work, as flat earthers believe that there are no satellites, despite some of them being observable with the naked eye, including the ISS.

Also how do you explain space tourism?

A number of companies will start flying suborbital tourist flights as early as 2018 and orbital later on (depending on company)

I did say let's assume that the measurements are correct. The internet gave me the radius. I'm not calculating circumference, I'm calculating drop for every mile you travel. Which is what we are discussing. You cannot calculate the decline of a circle without pre given measurements. It's impossible. That's why I assume it's correct so that I can arrive at a conclusion. I had nothing to do with calculating circumference or radius of the earth. Those are given numbers

OK I looked it up but that would suggest that at the "north pole" (the center) and "South pole" ( the edge) would experience regular day and night cycle like the rest of the world, and in fact the "north pole" would experience a year'round 12 hour day, whereas in reality the poles experience no exposure to the sun for 6 months, then no shade from the sun for 6 months. so your explanation doesn't work.
