What do you daily drive /b/? Is it a genuinely good daily or do you prefer looks/passion over convenience?
I'm currently talking to a dealer about this car in particular. I've already test driven it a few times and I'm genuinely considering it. I also have a shitty but stock 99 civic.
I daily drive 15 STI.
Its manual and got a somewhat stiff clutch but it over all is a very good drive for the power it puts out. I live in the country so don't really have to worry about stop and go, which would probably kill me. The AWD system is also phenomenal for shitty road conditions.
>>679273646
god I want an STI. I'm way too fucking poor to buy one, but maybe someday
>>679272596
I drive an '06 Mazdaspeed6. It's a wonderful daily driver, comfy, gets 30 mpg on the highway, doesn't look conspicuous enough to attract police attention. I have a full catless exhaust and cold air intake, dyno'd at 283hp/311tq at all 4 wheels. I love it.
>>679273870
Pic related. Literally bought this because I didn't have money for a subie.
>>679273870
>>679272596
Yeah I forgot to mention the STI is the police wet dream car. If you ever get one definitely invest in a good radar detector.
i daily drive a 2003 hyundai acccent. ive also got a drug problem and really like cars but cant afford one id actually enjoy driving.
>>679274147
Mazdafag here, I'm so happy that they didn't throw a hood scoop on my car. It has a TMIC and all but they made a bigger front air dam and ducting under the hood rather than a scoop.
>>679273646
nice. i'm thinking about an sti next or an s4 chipped
>>679273870
all 4 wheels? why dyno the back wheels of an fwd car anon?
I've got a 13 focus st with a catback. nothing crazy but i've raced a z and beat it and an amg gla whatever and held it till about 100 where it started pulling away. sweet car, but i wish it was awd, i'm also thinking about upgrading to the rs cuz i love it so much, i just want bitches on my dick cuz of the 4 hoops and i know they don't care about a ford badge
>passion/looks
>convenience
>whynotboth.jpg
>50mpg
>massive boot
>fuck all to take to and from work
>muh maintenance.
>>679274302
Mazdaspeed6 isn't FWD, it's AWD

I wonder how terrible it'd be to DD a RHD. I know a dude selling a registered GTS-T for dirt cheap.
Doesn't seem very doable so I'll probably never go for it. I can dream though.
>>679274375
oh haha, sorry. i read ms3 for whatever reason. what's the 6 like? i always wanted to build one into an evo killer but all the ones around here are crazy abused and at this point buying a newer car for the same or similar price makes more sense
>>679275568
One of my buddies had a Pulsar GTIR that he imported from Japan RHD. He didn't have any issues with driving it but he sold it for a Golf R.
I daily a Manual Corolla. Best daily you can ever have. Shifts like a dream and never needs gas. I wish I had a sports car for the weekend, but oh well.
>>679272596
What dealer in the West as a Skyline?
>>679276719
It's usually just people who never owned one that shit on my idea whenever I bring it up. I really want to go for it.
>>679277310
I know of one that's an actual dealer just outside LA that has a GTR and there's a local importer in Ontario, California that keeps a decent inventory and finances.
>>679277820
Well that actually sounds pretty good.
The closest thing I get to buying GTRs (from what I've seen) around here is on craigslist for $35K.
I've only seen one in person and all the people I know that have em are former military personnel that were stationed in Japan.
How much do those dealers sell em for?
>>679274370
more pics
this is my daily drive. 1990. runs great except it starts poorly some mornings, still trying to figure out why
>>679278176
I've seen GTS-T's go for between 10-15k if you don't mind that but yeah GTR's are anywhere from 25-35k and beyond if they're tuned or Nismo.
>>679278242
>>679278612
Fucking eh these cars are expensive over here, they literally go for candy in Japan and are lying around in mint condition, but over here it's a luxary.
Pic of Corolla btw
An Audi S4 as the family car, and an old Ford Sierra Cosworth for the giggles.
>>679272596
This.
Bitches love it
Dad car ftw. Decent gas mileage for an AWD SUV (somewhat SUV)
>>679279206
Yeah, a lot of it is luck in finding someone to help source, ship, and register one. If you can find someone that isn't going to totally fuck you, you can get one all in for way in the hell cheaper. I met a dude with a GTS-T that handled most of it himself with a friend that found the car for him and after everything, it only cost about 7k in really solid condition.
I'm thinking about trying to go that route or trying for a Silvia.
Can't ever go wrong with a Corolla.
>>679279478
>Bitches love it
Daily driver. It's a good everyday car, retractable hardtop a big plus for practicality.
Pic related, Its great daily, feels nice to drive.
I've got an '05 dodge magnum rt. 360hp and 410lbft as it sits now. Plus the wagon versatility. I love it overall

It's a very convenient car. You don't need to use the turn signals and you can drive like a dick all you want and nobody will bat an eye!
>>679279892
BTW OP, is your Civic a coup, sedan, or hatchback?
Pic would be nice.
Corolla is fucking amazing and anyone who even dares to sell one instead of giving it to someone in their family should never be trusted with the reliability of a toyota.
Unless you're trading one corolla for another, preferably for an AE86 Sprinter Trueno
>inb4 weaboo
>>679280365
Def, if you can get a model 3 I'd highly recommend preordering.

>>679281153
You know the rules. Any car over 50K needs a timestamp.
>>679280634
Horribly boring but it's one of the best first cars for anyone and teaches how to care for a car and how to be safe on the road.
Not saying other shitboxes don't do the same thing, but the kids that always get sports/muscle cars as their first cars, or even something like a high HP subie, are more likely to end up fucking that car up in an accident.
>>679280423
Just a crappy red sedan. Got it from a family member.
I think a lot of us were heavily influenced by Initial D. No shame in that. I'd love to replace my Civic with an 86 if I can find a decent one. Lately it's been nothing but trashed SR5s on Craigslist.

How do you like the Cayman?
I was thinking off getting a 14-15 Cayman S within the year.
>>679281710
I've driven around a lowered white 99 hatch (not mine) for a few months and it was fun but it attracts the worst people. All those hellaflush whatever dudes. That's why I'm opting for something different.
Sometimes mom owned SR5s pop up. I missed out on a red one a few months ago for 3500 that was mostly original. I had other priorities at the time. Slow as can be but it'd be so nice to look at.

Ugh those guys piss me off a lot. At least you know they'll be spending hundreds on tires and bumpers, and never win a race in their lives.
There's nothing wrong with sedans but if you had the coup you'd at least be able to pretend to be a racefag. I do it but in the end I always know I'll only be able to beat civics and other toyotas.
My shift points are top notch though so I get the least lag from shifting. I see those civic sedans and coups coming around my city all the time with fartcannons and I always beat em because noise = speed to these people
>>679282354

>>679281620
Nice
OK OP. I owned a R32 GTR for about five months. Buy the later specification so that when you wrap it into a pole your sorry ass walks away instead of waking up in a wheelchair. It's also got a more reliable motor that you, the retarded motherfucker you are, won't warm up. Don't worry at all about your water temperature it's about when the oil temp moves to above 90.
Look for crushed sills as a sign that it's been worked on at home - a scizor lift doesn't use the jack points that easily crush from use with a standard car jack.
Easy way to tell is the dash surround - the plastic is matte on later models and shiny on earlier models. Do the cambelt yourself because you'll be shelling 5-7k for a new 26 otherwise.
Anything lower than a 3.5 and I swear you're setting yourself up for dissapointment. If the door sags on the frame and is difficult to close expect the KM's to be above 130~ - it's easy to wind these japanese cars with the factory tech they use to change such things being slightly available to people involved in the Yakuza.
>>679282895

Yeah, eh. Over here fuel efficiency isn't that important to a lot of people. Like half the US is obsessed with gas mileage and the other half doesn't give a flying f*ck about it as long as it's over 10 mpg. I'm in the second group.
I know modern cars are safer and more fuel efficient and such, they're just so boring and ugly and plastic though. There haven't really been any cars I've seen since the 70s that have been as cool as the old muscle cars. Same with trucks mostly, though there were some really awesome 80s trucks and a few cool 90s trucks.

I had thought of getting a Subaru and one point after my roommate had bought one, then it turned out the previous owner drove it into the ground before selling it, then it turns out most people who own Subaru's do that. Also, that's not a crowd/image I want to be associated with.

That sucks man.
>>679286979
That's awesome. Did you keep your carb or go TBI? I know there's some weirdness with a carb on Vortec heads.
>>679286935
So, how does the Cayenne even drive?
I've only ever driven 911s and a Cayman.
The upper-line Cayennes can stick to my Z for a surprising amount of time.

>>679287391
Kept the carb using an edelbrock for now you just need a matching vortec intake and it works fine.
>>679287360
I lost my virginity in the car too back in the day. Was a terrible car, but never broke down.
>>679286979
>vortec
That will last longer than you anon kek
>>679287518
Ah, okay. For some reason I was thinking the Vortec intake was tbi-only, though I guess there's no reason you couldn't just fit a carb where the injectors go.

I got a focus st too. Big turbo like 380whp and a million other upgrades. I use it as a daily sometimes but usually it's my little track car.
>>679286338
Heres an exterior pic if anyone cares.
Basically just have a high-flow cat and ECU tune. Not gonna fuck with engine much because frankly it can smoke 99% of cars out there.
My old ford, it has about 350hp, fun car to drive.
>>679274265
they put one in eventually
So serious question here, why do JDM guys and other street racers like hatchbacks? Is there any practical reason, or is it just a style thing? IMO they're utterly hideous, and I was always curious why they're so popular.
I DD a '97 Audi A4 quattro. Good little car, works really well in the winter since AWD
>>679288140
I think they have a sort of goofy appeal. Depending on the car they can be pretty convenient.
>>679287360
That's a good car for it - could prolly do a 4-way in that bad boy.
>>679288140
Lightweight, easy to work on, TONS of aftermarket support
>>679288140
I dunno. I used to hate hatchbacks until I owned one then it was like oh look at all the extra room for activities.
>>679288140
Probably cheap to maintain and modify.
>>679288310
I guess I can see that, I just don't agree that it's appealing.
>>679288359

>>679287495
For an SUV, the cayenne handles like a beast. And the ride through the city is surprisingly smooth. It's not one of the top models as the S model has 340hp stock and with the custom exhaust, I'm sitting around 350. The Cayenne Turbo S model is 600+ hp so that car is fast but costs too much to be a daily car for me.

I don't care what car you drive but if you want to and choose to buy a car with a manual transmission over automatic I automatically hate you. Can anyone tell me what the benefits of a manual tansmission is like I literally don't see the fucking point your never gonna go over 60 mph in most places

To me I just love sharp lines and low-profile vehicles. 60s/70s muscle cars are the pinnacle of automotive design (visually anyway) to me, so I just don't get hatchbacks.
I drive a Peugeot 206 Station Wagon. It's ok as a daily driver but a very unemotional car. Lookwise it's ok but it lacks power and space. But since I'm a student I'll keep it a few more years.
>>679289081
I'm not trolling I generally want to know what the benefits on a manual are I know jack shit about cars so maybe I'm just being jaded when i say people want manuals because "hurr durr automatics are for pussies" I legit want to know why the idea is so popular because to me a manual tansmission would just be a fucking pain in the ass you can't smoke or anything while your driving what's the point
>>679288850
These still look good to my eye, even after all these years.
I agree a lot of hatches look like ass, but they're extremely practical.
>>679276587
I like it a lot. The MZR engines are kind of weak stock, they need rods and pistons done at about the level I'm at. Once that's out of the way, all you are is fuel pump internals, injectors, rails, and a bigger turbo and better intercooler away from 500 hp. You'll need a decent tune, of course. The stock turbo spools so quickly that if you couldn't hear it, you wouldn't know it had it. I can't describe how quickly it comes in. If I'm at 4k rpm and I go flat out, the needle swings up to 15 lbs faster than I can track it
>>679288990
Manual lasts longer usually. Forgot if it was the engine itself or something like the trans.
>>679288140
Usually they have better weight distribution (S13 for example), and objectively look better than their coupe counterparts (again S13 applies here).

>>679289444
They usually are cheaper and there is a lot of BS flowing around about better mileage with manual cars etc. I understand that for example on twisty mountain roads a manual transmission is better because you have more direct control. And it is also very uncommon here in Europe to find cheap cars with an automatic transmission.

>>679289444
Ah, okay. Well in that case I'll give a real answer. Basically, it's all about feel of the road. Automatics, once you learn to drive stick, don't feel like you're even driving them. They feel like you're just steering. And I at least almost always wind up yelling at an auto to shift, because they never do at the right spot.
Think of it this way. As the driver, you have complete awareness of what's going on and can make decisions based on your predictions of the future. The car can do nothing except guess, if you will, what's going on based on driver input. So in a manual you have actual control over the vehicle and it can do exactly what it needs to do, such as engine braking (which is nearly impossible in an automatic, which irritates me to no end). Automatics, to those of us who drive stick regularly, just feel really clumsy with all the unnecessary shifting and extra braking that comes with them.

Depends on the year. I know the old Chevy C/Ks were tough as nails and the 350 never died. The Dodge 318 and 360 have great reputations for reliability too from what I understand.
I know nothing of anything newer than the early 2000s.

Considering buying a sedan version of it. Is it reliable? I know maintaining it is a bit expensive.
>>679288990
you pretty much right, if all your gonna do is a daily commute then auto is by far the better choice.
But alot of people don't just use their car as a means of going from A to B, even if they don't track the car there is so much more fun to be had driving a manual over an auto
Its all down to what a person wants from their car really
The purple faggotmobile
>>679289444
With a manual you're always in control of exactly what gear you're in; no torque converter losses in the drivetrain. Lighter. Simpler. Cheaper. A hella of a lot more fun and involving to drive.
Some high-end cars now have 'automated manuals'. They shift faster than a normal manual, but are vastly more complicated, heavier and less involving than a real manual.
So, for a transportation appliance, automatics are fine. For a dedicated track car, where lap time is the only metric, then an automated manual is OK. If your goal is to have fun driving, then a real manual is far better.

Fuck dude, a mirage, you must've seriously burned some karma in a previous life...
All of you complaining about how automatic is worse than manual, you clearly have never driven a modern car automatic.
My 2011 audi a4 has automatic transmission with triptronic, so I can still manually shift in case of mountainous area (living in the Netherlands so that's never an occurrence) or when driving with a trailer.
Those who complain clearly live in a rural area without daily traffic jams to drive in, it is so much better to have automatic when in a traffic jam..(pic related with previous audi a4 1997 manual)
Never manual transmission again for me. (unless I buy a 10+ year old car, then the automatic gearboxes are utter shit)
>>679290397
Absolutely this.
I know autos are technically better at this point, but they're boring. Same with traction control and ABS and all the other electronic BS. I love my old-school manual, and I love how non-electronic it is. All I have to deal with electronically is EFI. And if carbs were reliable off-road, I'd go carb and not even worry about that.

It's not about whether the trans is "better" or not, it's all about the feel of the road. I can't stand anything but complete, undisputed control. It's why I don't have ABS or ESC or anything like that either.
>>679288990
Manual gives better fuel economy and less power loss through the drivetrain. Automatics were only invented so women and feeble minded folk could drive as well, because why should smart people have all the fun, right?

Kekles. Better millage? Get the fuck out of here.it's not even an argument . Manuals are for our people, that's the only place you save money is the initial price of the car. They don't even make manual high end cars
>>679291051
Honestly I prefer my manual (definitely not a fancy one, it's an old Jeep) in traffic over an auto. I just leave a car length between me and the next guy and idle ahead in first. I'm geared low enough that I don't move very fast and so while everybody else stops and goes I just move constantly at half the speed. I couldn't do that in my old automatic, though I probably could with the right gearing.

Manuals get better mileage if the driver is trying to get better mileage. Less power loss through drivetrain means less fuel needs to be burned to create the same movement. Manuals are lighter. The driver can choose to shift at a lower RPM than an automatic would.
>>679291313
