His mom is a black hole. The supernova occurs you just can't see it because she can literally suck the light out of a room.

why is everyone so convinced its not happening for millions of years?

for all we know it could have already happened and we are sitting ducks for the gamma ray burst of the ages.

Will the earth be kill when the sun goes supernova?
>>
>>678815101
The inverse square law means that very little of the blast will hit us.

Imagine a globe that's 640 LY in radius, and how vast its surface would be, and how dispersed the energy would be across it.
>>
>>678816341

No because it won't go supernova
>>
>>678815101
lets say it goes supernova today, it will need 640 years to actually affect earth in any way, till now i'll be long gone, so who cares
>>
>>678816341
No. the earth will be destroyed millions, if not a billion years earlier, when the sun starts to run out of hydrogen, and instead starts reacting helium, and swells out from its current size to being a red giant - it will most likely end up with the earth getting swallowed by the sun at that point.

The sun however isnt big enough to collapse on itself and cause a supernova - after it expands to a red giant, it will instead blow away its outer layers, and then shrink and end up as a white dwarf.

a star needs to be about 8-10 times as massive as our sun, to be able to collapse into a supernova.
>>
>>678816940
lets say it went supernova 638 years ago
>>
>>678816940
*then
>>
>>678816321
Best estimate is 100,000 years

And the resuits wouldn't get through the suns shielding anyway
>>
>>678816940
but it might have gone supernova 639 years ago.

we simply dont know...

just that it will happen, and on a geological/astronomical timescale, pretty soon.
>>
>>678817012
The sun raising its shields won't do shit if the supernova reverses the polarity of its transducer frequency.
>>
>>678817000
well then, let's hope we will be on the side of the planet that is facing away from it. tho, if the gamma radiation is to high, it will fuck up our atmosphere and we will be goners anyway. not right away tho. we will have plenty of time to think about how fucked we are

Once the supernova reverses it's polarity our sun is clear for a counter-attack. So the supernova can either try to get past our sun's defenses or get wrekt, it's choice.

I hope so. Degeneracy has gone too far - humanity is no longer worth saving. I'd rather the earth blew up than my great-great-great grandchildren all be a bunch of mixed race, transsexual, nigger-fucking faggots.
>>
>>678818231
>we will find a way

You can't find a way out of a blast radius from a distant super nova, a massive flare or ray from our own sun instantly igniting our atmosphere, a large meteor impact, even something as slight as a rogue planet entering our solar system throwing off orbital stability and either changing our distance from the sun, or cause our moon to slowly change course and colide with us.
There's a million things that could happen that could literally wipe out all life on earth instantly, and there's nothing you could do about it.
Which, by the way, is the whole point of OP's post, guess you didn't get it.

In reality, our extinction is likely inevitable. The universe SHOULD be teeming with life, and SHOULD have life far more advanced than us, why isn't it then? Likely because the universe is so chaotic, every civilization has their planet fucked by random shit before they get to a point to avoid it. It's extremely likely that the universe is littered with planets covered in the ruins and/or the long buried fossils of ancient civilizations that got to where we are or farther.

I think the best way for /b/ to kill the human race is to keep denying climate change and pollute as much as possible.
>>
>>678819659
Yup, so one day there'd be a little flash of light for a second or two, then a couple years later the energy would hit us.
In reality, the energy from a supernova would have to be from one of the closest stars to us to even impact us. As the wave travels, it spreads "thinner" outward from the point of origin. A distant supernova should be pretty much the least of our space-based worries.
Ray bursts from our sun is kinda more likely, happens constantly all the time, and if on directly hit us, poof, our atmosphere would instantly ignite.

When Betelgeuse does blow up, our planet Earth is too far away for this explosion to harm, much less destroy, life on Earth. Astrophysicists say we’d have to be within 50 light-years of a supernova for it to harm us. Betelgeuse is nearly 10 times this distance.

>You can't find a way out of a blast radius from a distant super nova

Not going to happen, too far away

>a massive flare or ray from our own sun instantly igniting our atmosphere,
Its been billions of year and has not happened yet, it isn't going to happen. If it ever does, humans will be advanced enough to leave the planet or design some protection from it with technology.

>a large meteor impact,
We would see it coming long before it happens (Like 50+ years) and would be able to nuke it the fuck up before it hits or within those 50 years find some way to avoid it.

>even something as slight as a rogue planet
Hasn't happened in the billions of years the planet has been here. Isn't going to happen; and again, by the time it does, we will be advanced enough to leave the planet or somehow prevent extinction with technology

>cause our moon to slowly change course and colide with us.
Same as before

>There's a million things that could happen that could literally wipe out all life on earth instantly, and there's nothing you could do about it.

Except we would know and be able to take measures. Honestly, we are more likely to wipe ourselves out, or get fucked from a natural disaster like a super volcano eruption than any of the previous shit you mentioned.
>>
>>678823087
I did but its too slow. I have absorption readings of a substance in a spectrophotometer and apparently I need to state the extinction coefficient. However, the extinction coefficient is just the absorptivity of a substance, so unsure why its asking me to state/figure it out.

>>
>>678823554
Well a meteor has passed pretty close before and we didn't notice till afterwards.
But I agree, we'll kill ourselves off before anything like this.
>>
>>678823554
Not totally true.
1) We look for about 2% of the sky.
2) As far as we know, the planet has already been hurt by a massive thing (Mars sized) which probably resulted in the creation of the Moon.
>>
Well you can see supernova from distant galaxies brighter than the whole host galaxy. That cant be good when it happens to one of our closest neighboring stars right?
>>
You have to be within about 50 light years of a supernova for that shit to do any damage... Betelgeuse is 600+ light years away. We're more than safe.
>>
>>678821132
Not under the same name.
>>
>>678824453
According to what evidence? There isnt much precedent for analysing this.
>>
>>678814444
Also. If it were to blow up, it would only hit us quickly if it was travelling at the speed of light from start till end which it prolly wouldn't.

>>
>>678824748

Saying 50LY is a safe radius is educated guesswork. No one really knows because there is no precedent.

>>
>>678819659
this isn't how waves work. if it was particles coming at us with enough energy to travel at super high speed, yes they'd be slower than the light you see, because particles can not achieve lightspeed. if it's shooting waves at us, then it will arrive at the same time. The only difference between stuff like infrared, visible light, ultraviolet etc is that our eyes can see a specific range of wavelengths.

think of it as being colourblind, the light is still there, you just cant see that colour, then substitute all other wavelengths bigger and smaller than visible light.
>>

It's not like the matrix asswipe. They get data about all sorts of variables and that translates into a hypothesis that can be statistically tested.

>>678829123
A theory is not the same as a hypothesis. If somethings already made it to the theory level it is pretty much considered true. Sure Einstein's idea is just called a theory. But that theory blew up Hiroshima and Nagasaki didn't it? Is that not enough evidence?

I disagree. There are likely beings who are present who are capable of forecasting coming situations and able to traverse massive distances almost instantly by bending and taking advantage of space/time to their will.

Ever see Bob Lazar? He may be a quack, but he explains how it would be possible. You would need to harness energy the likes of which has never been seen before, but had they more time to evolve, perhaps even 1000 years more than us, it may be possible that they've found this ability.

There's literally no reason why humans can't do the same, should we have the time allowed to us to do so, or perhaps, be off this rock expanding our genes throughout our galaxy in the first place (and who's to say we aren't already doing that in some way shape or form already?).

You'll either need to be raised by happy coincidences themselves or read up on all religions to even remotely make sense of the cultural and psychological aspect of any religion.

This is very true. Trump is essentially a moron when it comes to straight up knowledge. Rather, he's invested his time and life into learning the loopholes/principals of investing/real estate.

He's even learned how to do orchestrated, organized bankruptcies in order to rebuild capital - something which only the smartest of accountants have done.

He's essentially the walking embodiment of "education isn't everything" because whilst essentially a moron when it comes to everything else, he does business like nobody else. He's even willing to sell his own image to garner money to invest into other ventures.

The guy is ruthless as fuck.

It's almost as if they identify as athiest SOLELY for the sake of opposing religion (for whatever reason that may be). The one anon debating is making some very rational points in this thread, very few Scientific theories are proven (though that does not discredit all of them). >>
>>678833205
You just demonstrated that you're too lazy and/or stupid for theology. Do you dumb atheist faggots REALLY think you're the first people in history to question theism? Fucking Plato wrote about it. Classical philosophers wrestled with these matters, and brilliant Renaisaance men (including DesCartes and Newton) were committed theists. Are you smarted than them?

But you aren't interested in actual truth or wisdom, or thinking about serious matters spiritual. Thinking is hard. So you just adopt whatever is easiest and most justifies you doing what you want, and then crow about how "smart" you are.

Intellectual midgets, imagining others to be fools so you yourselves can feel wise. Pathetic.

Thomas Aquinus offered proofs of God centuries ago. Go disprove them and become famous. Otherwise, shut the fuck up. You're stupid, arrogant children.
>>

If there is an objective evil, then what people have to say about it is irrelevant. They don't make it up any more than they make up the gravitational constant. They discover it only. Someone's misinterpretation doesn't mean it doesn't exist.

And ironically, the people who say it doesn't exist are the ones most responsible for great evil. See: the Killing Fields.
