My reason for liking him was summed up by reading one of the comics. It was the one with the crazy guy who got his balls or something cut off by his crazy mom so he turned into some weirdo woman killer. He told the punisher about his desire to hurt innocent women. If it was superman or batman they'd beat him up and throw him in jail. Then he'd get out and do it again and repeat. The punisher just put his fucking shotgun in the guy's mouth and blew his head off.

My favorite Punisher moment was in one of the early issues of War Zone. He's got a guy strung up in chains in a warehouse for interrogation. He lights a blowtorch in front of the guy, then walks around behind him and starts talking about how high temperature burns don't hurt at first because it sears the nerve endings. When the blood starts flowing it actually feels cold on you, etc, etc but actually Frank is behind him holding the torch to a piece of tire rubber to make a horrible smell and holding a popsicle to the guy's back.
When the guy gives in and tells him what he wants to know, he walks around in front of him, sticks the popsicle in his mouth, and leaves him hanging in the warehouse to be found by the mobsters he's just betrayed.

He's just starting up in the show. In the last episode he is beginning to turn into the calm calculated Punisher.
The show is basically the original punisher that debuted back in the spiderman comics where he was crazy hot blooded and out for revenge. But once he got his revenge he decides that he can't stop or this is going to happen over and over. So he starts taking it to the enemy instead of trying to find specific people.
If he's around the next season, or they start up the rumored Netflix Punisher Series he should be the punisher that you see here.

But I can also see it going another way. If they make the show like 'Punisher: War Journal' then it could turn into a bit of a criminal of the week type thing where he's taking down a different baddy in a totally different section of the country each season.
I think my favorite part of the Daredevil season was when he was interrogating the Irish dude and had the gun to his head. He was still pumping info from him but hear people approaching in the hall. So he just shoots him and takes up a defensive position.
It's such a soldier thing to do and not Hollywood at all. Don't fuck around trying to keep the dude alive, you'll get the info elsewhere. Take him out so he won't be a threat later. It was pretty amazing.
Also the prison scene where Kingpin locks him in with all the inmates was fucking awesome.

Examine the logic behind this. If a villain somehow figures out spider man's identity then they could use the people close to him to get to spiderman. This happens perpetually in pretty much any spiderman media.
But not telling them does nothing to protect them or spiderman's secret identity. In fact if he manned up and told MJ and Aunt May he was spiderman they would be better able to protect themselves and spiderman's secret in the event that a villain did come looking for them.
The real reason spider man never tells them is to prevent the people close to him from gaining any power from him. He secretly loves lying and manipulating those around him while taking on the role of the hero and martyr.

It's basically a zombie story, except they aren't actually dead. They are inflicted with a disease that basically makes them act on their most violent and depraved impulses. They are usually portrayed as being almost mindless savages, but they have some intelligence, and some of them are really intelligent.
The comics do center around different groups of survivors. In the Psychopath storyline, the main guy was a complete psycho, and in many ways worse than the crossed, because he could kind of fit in and prey on people without them realizing it until it was too late.

I've always interpreted the ending as the death of the Joker, since the first page sets up the last, but it isn't canon that he died just that Barbara got capped and some other bad shit happened. You should really read "The Tick" comics. They're fucking hilarious and completely make fun of all those points your bringing up.
But the thing is that you're not saying anything that people haven't been bringing up since the late 70's. These comics have been retconned as the anon up there mentioned so many times that it gets ridiculous to try and keep them all straight.
But to answer your question he takes pics of Spider-man because he gets exclusive pics that only he can get. Somewhere around the mid-90's J.Jonah Jameson finally calls Peter out on how he gets such candid shots. He brings up the fact that if Peter were to get some of those shots he'd have to be 30ft off the ground (Bringing up how he always puts his camera in a web on auto) and sometimes be hanging upside down. Peter then "Confesses" that he's friends with Spiderman.
Basically it's all to have job security as he's the only one with exclusive access.

I like Tony Stark. I know boo, hiss, popular easy answer or whatever, but he's the only "smart" hero where I've actually believed his intelligence, and how fucked up it would be to be that smart, and (almost) none of it felt like deus ex machina intelligence like with Reed Richards. He's crazy smart and he pays the price for it with a laundry list of character defects and no I didn't mean to quote the 2008 movie but I did.
I also love that he treats AI and robots/cyborgs with a degree of respect you don't really see from other characters. In a world with Tony Stark, we would never have to fear a Skynet.

They altered him too much. It did follow the Welcome Back Frank and Year One storylines pretty nicely though. It's just that being a Vietnam Vet is part of what defines him. Marvel would love nothing more than to drop that, but really can't, because it's just so damn important.

To be fair Lobo was specifically invented to make fun of all the 'Punisher' lone gunmen types that comics were coming out with just like Judge Dredd was. But like Dredd the public took it the wrong way and he became immensely popular.
On that note the issue where Lobo died and went to hell only to get kicked out because he was too violent, then started slaughtering angels and got kicked out of heaven and became immortal because neither wanted him anymore was pretty fucking funny.
That picture of god watching Lobo slaughtering all the angels on a TV and laughing his ass off while drinking beer and and eating chips is one of the greatest drawings in comic history.

What I loved about that crossover is that for the entirety of rest of the big story arc, when Superman was fighting Hulk, Capt. America was fighting Batman and so on. Lobo and Wolverine just sat in that bar drinking and smoking while watching it all unfold on the Bar's TV. It was fucking great.
