I stopped doing speed seven years ago and my life is so fucking empty now, I have no fucking idea how to interact with society on any level but a professional one. As a former addict turned addiction therapist, I will say that I've seen people successfully get clean using methadone or suboxone.
But in my personal opinion, kicking is better. Suboxone/methadone just extends the dependence. You can go into a detox and they can help you kick with minimal discomfort without prolonging it like methadone or suboxone treatment. Hell, some people stay on that shit for years - it's ridiculous. Just a way for pharmaceutical companies to cash in on addicts, as far as I'm concerned.
marijuana is only a gateway drug in a society where marijuana illegal. its considered a gateway not because it makes you want to do other drugs (it doesnt, in most people it decreases any desire to use other drugs) but because youre exposed to an underground culture that has other drugs available thus making it possible for you to use other drugs. most people dont wake up one day and decide to find a connect and become junkies, its usually because someone you know does it and either offers you or tells you how good it feels. if you were inclined to do drugs an obvious starting point would be weed, since its the most common drug and most widely available, some people like it some people dont and want to try other stuff, few people actually wanna smoke pot and maintain other drug habits, especially if youre into uppers
