I was diagnosed young as well, but I waned myself off it halfway through high school. Did ok for the rest of school and for a couple years out of it, but towards the beginning of 2015 it started really affecting me again. My ex and I had mutually broken up so I was alone for all of the year and the beginning of this year which probably made it a lot worse since I didn't have anyone to kind of nudge me in the right direction and keep me on track. Last Sept/Oct I went and saw my primary who told me to go get evaluated by a psych before going back on meds. I was hesitant, but going back on was the best decision I've probably ever made in a VERY long time.

I work in a prison and have been in charge of inmates with a variety of mental illnesses, and schizophrenia is the most unsettling one I have ever encountered. There is one inmate that comes to my mind - his name is Warren (not his real name duh but you know) and Warren is 31 years old with severe schizophrenia.
When he is on his medicine, he is somewhat normal - he knows he is in prison, can talk about his mood and will tell you things about his life before being incarcerated. But every few months he decides he doesn't want to take it anymore, and the madness beings:
He will throw food on the walls, piss on the floor, and generally has no idea where he is or what his situation is. But that is nothing compared to how he sees the world - he believes that the entire universe is connected to a central computer that determines all outcomes, and that HE BUILT the computer. He claims that he has met every correctional officer ever born in various cities around the world and he thinks that the world has "glitches" because of the computer malfunctioning. Sometimes he feels like there are assassins waiting around every corner to murder him, or that there are cameras and microphones in the walls or in his teeth designed to monitor him.
Warren also happens to several other medical conditions that make him mentally slow, but the schizophrenia is the most debilitating and prominent illness he expresses. Please do not think that people are making shit up because you think that your daily existence of normal must automatically apply to other people.
