Fun game, bad Fallout game. Buy it though, it's really entertaining and there are some really great moments.
>>

Great game. Everyone hates it tho because it wasnt amazing
>>
>>677604017
Yeah it's good, bout 11/12 days game time atm. (A lot for me, don't play games anymore)

Anyone who says otherwise is just being a whiny bitch or just doesn't know shit.

>>677604017
great game, bad fallout
>>
>>677604017
decent game, shit Fallout game. Bethesda keeps getting rid of more and more RPG elements and in this installment they really fine tuned a lot of the FPS mechanics.
It's very little more an RPG at this point than Wolfenstein, so if that's what you're looking for go for it.
That said, still looks ok, decent map size (smaller than Witcher or GTA, probably about the size of Skyrim), story is... ok.
>>
But boring

Bad points - faction choices and settlement building. Also resource farming is annoying
>>
>>677604120
>best fallout to date
>story is not very well done
you you even fallout bro?
>>
>>677604679
Nail on the head. Additionally, I found that there was little to no incentive to explore, as easter eggs and attention to detail was lacking.

Seemed like everything that makes a fallout game wasn't present.
>>
>>677604017
It had the potential to be the best fallout to date but they ruined the dialog system by ripping off Mass Effect.
Also If you quicksave and try out all the choices you'll quickly realize that none of the choices you make do anything different.
That trend continues till you beat the end and get another rip off from Mass Effect: The ending.
You basically kill two factions and leave the other one. Then your guy says the same thing for each ending, Except one gets an extra 6 word sentence.
I scored the game for 40 bucks and put 143 hours into it and It was fun, but It was a huge step backwards for the series as a whole.
7/10 beware the fanboys
>>
>>677604017
Underrated. It was very hyped up and then it came out and some people didn't like it. They then said "Oh this is shit" in reality its a fun game that you can get a lot of hours into it.
>>
I feel like Far Harbour will address the major issues.

Hoping TESVI will be as good as III, IV, and V.
>>
Some decent reviews for a change. Automatron is out & it's pretty good but really short story-wise. The robots are kinda cool there's tons. It won't be until May when Far Harbor comes out tho when we see how the 'real' dlc will be.
>>
>>677605110
>Far Harbour will address the major issues.
Obsidian will address the major issues, friend.
>>
>>677604017
it's fucking shit bro, huge waste of money
>>
>>677605142
Automatron hinted at a great theme of heroism but then just said "fuck it".

Having the Mechanist think you are the villain for how shitty the Commonwealth has become since you came is a good perspective on the RPG genre as a whole.

The reveal for Mechanist was also really good.
8/10 micro-DLC.
>>
>>677605168
I want Bethesda's world building with Obsidian writing. TES is what Bethesda is best at.
>>
>>677604017
I have a theory about Fallout 4.

While >>677604679 is correct about it being quite low on story and RP elements, I do believe that Bethesda have kind've done this intentionally.

They are creating a Game Engine. There will be a few DLCs that will be nothing more than equipment and crafting mods, maybe a few behavior addons like companions and settlers.

Players will complain over the lack of gameplay, but what we'll see is, in a few months, when they release the GECK, we'll have almost everything we need to make our own full-conversion RP games.

Because the way feral ghouls work now, if they released the GECK today, within the week there would be a kick-ass zombie game out there. Now imagine that with better companions, settlers and building.

Bethesda haven't concentrated on story because they're creating game mechanics, piece by piece. But they could never admit that to us, or we wouldn't buy it.

Or maybe I'm putting too much faith in Bethesda .

When you compare it to the depth and options in Skyrim, you realize just how lazy all of the postgame/dlc was. There's always something else to be doing, bored with Quests? Craft, or Daedric weapons, or shout hunting, fighting dragons>those puss f4 deathclaws.

Overall it's not even a comparison, I don't understand why they'd shoot themselves in the foot.

The building is shit too. Feasible, I'd take the time to put something together that didn't look like shit.

No, it's shit. Copy paste from other Bethesda games. The story is shit, the endings consist of what factions you join or kill an has no impact on the world at all. The dialogue is yes, no, or sarcastic. Half the time saying no doesn't mean anything, forcing you into quests you don't wanna do. Speaking of quests their aren't any, I felt like I've done all the interesting original side quests after playing through the game twice since the world is incredibly small.

>>
>>677604017
Ehh... long story short, no it's not a good game. Arguably had the most potential, but they completely fucked it up. Story is lackluster and highly convoluted (think Fallout Tactics), environment quickly gets boring, mechanics (totally ripped off from other games) are rock stupid, also bugs bugs bugs and bugs. Settlement building is just a huge pain in the ass, with little to no reward.

I'll never understand how Bethesda managed to make a game that is basically Fallout + Terminator + Blade Runner + The Patriot = Yet somehow, BORING AS FUCK.

Automatron DLC was decent though.

I could go into great length on why this game is such a disappointment, but I'd rather keep butthurt at a minimum.

They're too busy working on PoE2 and co-developed Baldurs Gate: Siege of dragonspear.

Bethesda would force them to develop a massive, expansive world with intricate and complex inter-arcing missions with no less than 6 distinct outcomes on a shitty game engine and give them 1/3 the time they promised Obsidian to bug test it.

There's certainly parts of New Vegas that are better than FO:2.
The Sierra Madre, for example, wouldn't have been nearly as terrifying (provided you play on very hard/hardcore survival like an actual Courier worth his fucking salt) in a top-down RPG style.
Also, something about going 10-ish real-life years without seeing the fledgling NCR conglomerate, and discovering they're grown so big they've expanded into Vegas...that was a feeling I doubt I'll ever have again.

Torrent it. Only DLC had real fallout feeling. Got some great moments, but less 2. worst fallout game. If f3/nv and this mixing up (NV base, settlements, companion/weapons/armor upgrade, graphics from 4 ) will be an excellent game. But mostly tragic.
>>
>>677604017
Personally I thought it was boring and so easy. Guns don't degrade, legendary weapons are thrown at you all the time, forces you have companions a lot of the game and the forces you use the base building shit.
>>
>>677610682
Wouldn't call Witcher and Skyrim good RPGs.
Good sandboxes with a loose story.

Pillars of Eternity was a superb RPG, but you need to be able to handle micromanaging your party and (compared to Witcher/Skyrime/ME) have competency in semi-advanced combat tactics. Or just play on Easy.

Rich world, rich story, real character development on p'much all your party members, main character development is pretty well done. And a super-dungeon to boot.

His point was that conversations have been gutted to potato mode. All those options you see in 3 and NV? Now sit there and tell me the two choices of siding with the Institute or siding with EVERYONE else is compelling. Then tell me that somehow the BoS vs. Minutemen is an engaging choice.

Did you...actually do the Randall Clark/Survivor storyline?
It was all in the exploration, a theme perfectly fitting a former national park/off-the-grid tribal area. You eventually find out where Randall Clark laid down to rest, find him, and you get a unique Service Rifle for the efforts (along with a story detailing his survival from the Great War until ~40 years later and his significant influence on the region)

No, that's true, actually. That was the one good thing in that DLC. But the main quest shoulda been more like that. There a pretty good setting.

I think that all in all, most Fallout games failed at exploiting the fantastic narrative ressources of a post-war wasteland.

The A Quest For Heaven mod series for Fallout 3 was awesome that way. Very old abandonned bunkers, tragic stories, hours spent underground trying to wake an old facility up...

setting means dick all if the characters aren't interesting. most of that shit you mentioned was in fallout 4 but when you kill feral ghoul 1000 it doesn't fucking matter anymore.

i can only recall three storylines that were worth a shit in the entirety of fallout 4

1 - the guy imprisoned by his family in the asylum that is using his blood to stay alive indefinitely. genuinely cool storyline that could have continued/expanded

2 - douchebag rich kid dindu who wants to slang drugs but is actually a poser. ambushing him at the chem deal and violently interrogating the survivors for location of the lab. again cool story but then you go to the lab and theres absolutely no point of finding the secret lab/barely anything to loot

3 - pickmans gallery

there were so many characters that could have been cool (virgil) but the storyline was "hey get me the serum" and "oh thanks for the serum i guess cya around bro"

>Fallout is different in that it isn't serial.
Uh.
In Fallout 2, you are the son of the protagonist of Fallout 1.
The Courier (protagonist of New Vegas) may or may not be the son of the Fallout 2 protagonist. At the very least, factions from Fallout 2 are present in New Vegas (Followers, NCR, Jackals, Vipers, Khans, BoS).

The only one that isn't serial is Fallout 3/4. They're semi-serial to each other in that they both, comparatively, suck cock to FO:1/2/NV.

RIGHT?!
JESUS CHRIST he invented A CURE FOR FEV.
A cure for FEV. It's like the wet feverfuck dream of every post-war (and Pre war) scientist! He cured FeV, he literally undoes the forced evolution and repairs all the genetic modifications. Imagine if that shit got used on The Master, or Marcus?
And what does Bethesda fucking do with it?
>gonna stay in this cave for a bit, help yerself to my scrap shit, cyaz
>>
>>677613429
Well, I disagree and agree. You can have an awesome game with next to no characters if the stroy is good.

BUT

What you said about 4 is true as fuck.
It feels so watered down. And your discoveries never feel like you've actually discovered something cool yourself. It's all so scripted.

I can see what they tried to do but it was a miss. Filling up your world with stories and non-repetitive dungeons was cool.
But the whole thing is incoherent. You have no impact on the world DESPITE building fucking settlements. Nothing evolves. Nothing happens in the cities.

Yeah, upgrading weapons and building stuff is cool and all, but actually making a new great game is not only about gameplay mecanics. Make something ALIVE for a change !

You can prove some mechanics are original and new.
You can prove that a majority of people enjoyed it.
You can't prove that it's good.

No you fucking retard. All the walls of texts that are written for NPCs (NPCs that all have a fancy name and don't matter for shit in the game) are written by nerds that backed up the project on kickstarter as a throwaway bone.
This is why they make zero sense 100% of the time.
"As you stared on the huge man that glances over you with a reluctant severity only a Kalamyr merchant would display, you perceive the soft dew on the leaves and a familiar rustle in our mom's ass yadayada"

Also the "soul reading" ability is probably the worst cliché of RPGs if I ever saw one
>>
>>677605051
>Also If you quicksave and try out all the choices you'll quickly realize that none of the choices you make do anything different.
There's a mod that displays the full text of what you're about to say in place of the simplified dialog wheel, and it's readily apparent that every dialog option for every conversation in the game, except like 3 main quest ones, ultimately says the same thing, except maybe, if you're lucky, an extra "let's have this exact same conversation later" option.

No. All the kickstarter backstories were pretty gay. After that there wasn't even that much.

Divinity - Original Sin beats PoE in every way.

Again, I am just about certain you didn't read / don't read so your imagination didn't have a chance to develop.

Also *reasonably* sure you're not that old, and came into gaming long after limited graphics obligated using your imagination to flesh out the finer details of the game worlds portrayed to you.

Honestly; I feel bad for you. You don't have a healthy imagination so you 100% have to rely on what's displayed on-screen. I imagine you're not very good at DnD/W40K either.

>Never give false options. Do not create multiple options that lead to the same result. It insults players' intelligence and does not reward them for the choices they make.
>Don't put words in the player's mouth. With the exception of conditional replies (gender, skills, stats, etc.), phrase things in a straightforward manner that does not mix a request for information with an emotionally loaded bias ("I'd like to know what's going on here, jackass.").

Two principles that NV followed for its dialog, Bethesda managed to violate for practically every conversation in the game.

Don't listen to these idiots. It's an excellent game. Spent 2 months doing all side content then finishing the game. Developing settlement is very fun and scavenging is always great.
The item system with legendary is great, no more repairs, you can build enhancements and lots of customization.
Combat is great too, the radiant quests are nice (although some are timed which sucks)
Also, the universe is still very believable and immersive and the experience is just awesome overall.
That is, if you're not a nostalgic retard whose life degenerated so much over those past decades that he feels like everything was better "before"
