find out what your specialties/interests are. you also need to understand that sometimes your interests are not specialties. start saving money and living by your standards. if you start with a job at taco bell making minimum wage you need to put every dollar you have left over either into savings or into your goal career.

Start thinking why the fuck you studied that, the sooner you realize you did wrong, the sooner you may correct your mistake. The nice thing is, you are just 23, that's nothing... better to start learning something useful now and spend the next 4 years doing so to bootstrap your career than go on with whatever your studies give you and expect that in 4 years you'll be earning even a fraction than with an engineering degree

well see, that's what's wrong with your offer for advice, if you really earn that much money, there is not much advise to offer, because you are in a such specific and unique population that it's probably going to be hard to follow that path, that kind of money generally comes with very specific talents that are generally not transferable.
On the other hand, if you earned 150 - 200k, there is real advise to be given there, specific careers to study, what path to follow, etc.

not at all, you just have to push yourself, I think I'm intelligent, but to a certain degree. What an engineering degree really teaches you is to know how to learn new things, how to approach problems, how to approach problems in a logical way, etc. That's the value of the degree. It's a big effort, yes, but it really pays off.

this is why I changed from mechanical engineering to law. Nothing but the smell of curryniggers and everyone I had classes with were greasy autistic fucks with no interpersonal skills. I'm not the most social person, but I had to carry every group project because everyone was afraid of human contact (even amongst fellow n3_ts) and were uncreative math drones who couldn't use a tool or solve a problem to save their lives or GPAs.

Business is important in almost every career and almost always a requirement to grow into management or higher end roles but the problem is that business in itself doesn't give you a lot. What makes you different from other business students? make yourself interesting (don't know the US education system to recommend, although I work in the US), find something that makes you unique and valuable
>>
>>676854999
op here. while engineering (excluding the actual learning enviroment) would be my top choice, i believe i would pick law. better learning enviroment and alot of it has to do with a persons actual skill and specialty.

this is all lies

anyone who would be a good engineer comes in with an innate understanding of logic, problem solving, and creativity then is taught statics, dynamics, etc. and a shitload of pure math until you come out the other side with an engineering degree. the soulless indian robots who excel on paper (besides cheating their asses off btw) can't solve a problem worth a shit.

engineering doesn't teach you how to design things or solve problems, it teaches you how to back up your shit when someone asks you why you should do X.

To give up your emotional ties for a career is quite unreasonable but not completely, one thing that some people don't understand is that you can adjust some thing to go with what you expect in life. Example for me would be that I would have never married someone that didn't have professional goals. And it's not that I'm cold or anything, it's just that I know that it wouldn't make me happy to be with someone without that push, so, I've too have broken emotional ties to be where I am, but it all depends on the perspective. I did it, because in the long run, you understand what works and what not. And I was a very idealistic person, but love is almost never enough, you must have a shared vision for your future.

I've used maybe 10% of my engineering career learnt knowledge in my job, the rest is how they forged my head. I'm 100% convinced that I would have done equally fine if I've learnt completely different subjects in the same depth and same level, because it wasn't about what I've learnt but how I did it and what it provided me. And what it provided me was the knowledge that I could really understand whatever I wanted if I really try hard enough.

Second, fulfilment in life cannot be measured in if a person browses 4chan or reads cosmopolitan, yeah, if you do that all your free time you are probably dumb and sad (or at least I think that), but everyone needs some kind of escape, and today, that my wife is out in a business trip, my kid asleep, I'm browsing 4chan while designing some pcb boards for a hobby project.

>but if you wanted the hard shit just hit up the crippling alcoholic and hard drug users, the upper class engineering students
how is this not in line with what everyone has been saying m8?

the curryniggers and chinks were all soulless robots, the n33ts were greasy fucks who wouldn't look you in they eye as you tried to discuss a group project, and anyone who knew their ass from their hat turned into an alcoholic or developed a coke or prescription drug problem. You're mostly talking to those that avoided the worst part of being in the latter group by fucking off to not terrible majors.

not OP, but a little help here
1) go to incubator. you will get an office space, find other indivudals who might be willing to work with you for little money or equity, and you will make connections that will help you find things like funding, permanent office space, etc. you'll also learn a shitton.

2) Grant aren;t that complicated at all. find a good grantwriting firm and contract them to assist, especially if you;re in tech sector. there are also a bunch of private grants/awards too if you know where to look.
>>
>>676862719

A degree isn't worthless. Part of it is also the college experience of growing with people around you, and the longer you wait to go to college (if that makes sense for you) the more annoying it will be if you're older than the people around you. It's less experiential and more "get to the end." The tricky thing about degrees that nobody tells you growing up is that they aren't these hyper-explicit singular destination tickets. Sure, it's about specialty, but depending on your major, there is some to a lot of wiggle room with how you apply your relevant skills, what you've learned in the degree, and what else you've studied (assuming you can show that you have a proficient enough understanding of it to mention it at all). I'm not saying you *must* go to school, but chances are if you're jaded to shit like retail and desire a niche or purpose, you're unlikely to find it in something redundant and medial like security or sales.
>>
>>676862754
I'll assume you are american, can not even conceive that someone lives in the fucking west coast!? my god... exotic locale, wow...
Anyway, look, having a lot of money is not like the movies, in general, money comes with hard work, and people are not partying every day and night, because during the day, you normally work, and at night, on a weekday, you stay at home, chill and enjoy whatever you enjoy doing at home. Grow up.
>>
>>676862754
just to get it straight, noone in the thread has brought up the drown-your-sorrows group, so don't act like they did.

secondly, the Indians and nips/chinks generally fucked off and kept to themselves. vast majority of eng. students were actually pretty chill, and did some pretty cool shit when they weren't wasted.

I dunno, I kinda feel like alot of the people hating on the eng. programs in this thread are on the spectrum themselves and are projecting, if you catch my drift.
>>
>>676863008
>2) Grant aren;t that complicated at all. find a good grantwriting firm and contract them to assist, especially if you;re in tech sector. there are also a bunch of private grants/awards too if you know where to look.
This takes a fair amount of money to hire any firm anon. Does the incubator require to sellout equity in company?
>already using third party services at a fair price, want to be able to have in house workers to kick up our business a major notch. I fell like i am on a plateu. Would make so much more if i had the help
>>
>>676863849
falling into a stream of consciousness writing style is pretty solid evidence those anons hit the nail on the head.
>this asshurt
>>
>>676864537
too answer

1) if you're looking at SBIR or NSF grants, and you think firms are expensive, then hire a dedicated grant writer. they are alot cheaper

2) incubators never take equity as payment, because considering that 90% of companies fail, it's a pretty shit form of payment. almost all have fixed rate leases, same as getting a standard office space, except cheaper, with huge perks. the only limitation is time - you're typically not allowed to spend more than three years in an incubator,. but by that point, you should have your shit together enough to strike out on your own.

woof, that's way outside my geo.

allright, here is an example of what I'm talking about -

http://www.strategycenterok.com/business-incubator-prices

I also suppose using the term "incubator" is a bit broad for what I;m describing, as you are coorect, there are some incubators connected with VC's that essentially poach companies,

the things to look for are co-working incubators, which can be excellent, and typically avoid getting into the funding game to reduce risk. most famous example of this is rocketspace out of San Fran.

well you may not understand it. but i value my money. it represents my hard work. see if i was a punk ass kid with rich ass parents or some paris hilton type spoiled brat the money wouldnt mean anything. and i dont go around in public brandishing my cash like a trophy. i live actually far below by means. i see these rappers and drug dealers that get on videos with gold teeth and shit and its laughable. theyre scrambling to buy this shit just for the attention and in no time theyre broke. those are the kinds that truly have nothing. i worked for my cash and it means more than just a number to me.

Any way to get a simple 40 hour work week accounting job right after graduating? All I hear is horror stories of accountants, especially recent grads basically living in the office. That ain't for me pham.

what do you think about going into health care for a career? (USA 1st year nursing student, probably going to get a graduate degree after)
