Well, I went with Space Wolves. Mainly for their heavy Viking influence. They are insane in close combat but have the same firepower as any other space marine chapter.
I think mainly though they seem to be one of the only Imperial factions that actually fight for the good of its people. I think so anyway.

Id go with a small space marine army. I know everyone says that everyone plays them. But they are a good starter army as they are pretty well rounded in ability. Most other races are very specialized or favor a certain play style over others.
Like you could do close quarters with Tau but why would you? kinda thing. Chaos is cool, but personally they are kinda edgy to me.
I guess it really comes down to what kinda play style YOU are interested in. Want to do insane range? Go Tau. want range but like humans better? Go Guard. Want shock troop style play? Go chaos or space marines.
All races are good, its just really finding one with a story you like and a play style you might want to try.

Khorne daemonkin, if your dead set on playing chaos. Killing or being killed gives you blood tokens, tokens give you daemons or buffs. The army doesn't really require transports like others do, skull cannons will do all your shooting along with soul grinders and you can take heldrakes to fly around and burn shit

I used the custom chapter rules when they first came out with that. Took Wisdom of the Ancients rule or whatever that lets you take dreadnoughts in Elite slots and Heavy.
It was hit or miss depending on their army make up. But they are really versatile units and i could really customize their weapon load outs.

even though i have only played for about a two year period i have collected 3 armies and i gotta say i like my guard the best. Not just because i can out number nids in a 5000 point game but because you may have a better save than most of my models, with enough dice you will fail that 2+ or 3+ save at some point
Tbh I played the necrons 4 years ago, I still have my army to this day but the game is too expensive to buy like £100 of rule books every month so I only play DOW. And my experiences with the board game are no better it's boring and unbalanced because everyone is a marinefag and circle jerks going "werer dat best armie" with their fucking migit teleporting titans that are clearly in no way broken.

Besides the previous good advice of thinning down your paints... They really look and feel far too artificial. Switch it up some with veins of purple here and there. Toss in a splash of orange or red to highlight/offset all that yellow.
Personally I like the iron hands the most for their lore, although they're codex is almost impossible to find for under 200 dollars. Their only real advantage is the 6 plus feel no pain but unless you can roll a six every other turn it ain't gonna matter.

quick tip on the skin portion easy to cover up and make look really good take elmers glue put a nice decent layer all over the palm of your hand let dry peal off will have a skin like texture built in and thin pieces will be easy to glue to the model also using model masters gloss sealer on exposed organs and dull coat on the leather rotting skin will bring out the rot more
