I didn't expect this kind of support out of the blue. The truth is that I've been an opiate addict for about 6 years and now Im on suboxone and I basically consider that to be clean, as in Im not getting high. Now I believe the point of my treatment is to one day realize I haven't thought about getting high in months and that my habits have changed, which they have.
I couldn't imagine a meth addiction. I personally don't like it but for the meth addicts I know, It's really easy to relapse. For opiate addicts, we go through withdrawals and once youre done with that you're like "oh god I don't want to go back to that" but meth people just eat a cheeseburger and take a nap, then are depressed for weeks.

Opiate users fare about the same on that subject. There is one thing though that I think might help shape your opinion about the suboxone. It literally doesn't get you high once you've adapted to it; it has a low dose-response ceiling and is only a partial agonist. I could take a whole script of them and it wouldn't do any more than take away my cravings for the drug and subtlely stabilize my mood. That's why I consider it a good thing. However I do intend to quit once I fully establish my change in habits, people, places and things.

Well if I could give you advice there are lots of ways you can overcome the initial few weeks, that is if you're not going to get on suboxone (which I've established has helped me so far). I do however have experience with getting clean without subby, even getting clean from subby.
12 Step Groups are a hit and miss. You should go, but find the one that you really really click with. However, avoid making personal friends in NA because well, I have connections I wouldn't have otherwise gotten because of that. When detoxing, most rehabilitation clinics will give you some things to help ease the peaks of the withdrawal, but if withdrawal is more or less a cake walk for you I wouldn't fully suggest it though its still an option. When I was in rehab, I was put on a taper starting with
>2x 32.4mg Phenobarbital 4x a day (morning, lunch, dinner, night-- the dosing schedule tapers down to just one pill 1x a day by day 10)
I know its not an opiate or even a benzo but I swear this cut the peaks right off of my symptoms. I was also able to sleep.

For depression, take small walks and set small goals. The 2nd best advice I got from a counselor (it resonated with me) was to treat my life like an RPG. I am a human with stats and to build those stats, I go on quests, collect items, and overall that is just me accomplishing small goals.
The best advice I had might not apply to you--- You ever see christian people like, in rehab or NA/AA, and they just seem to be so happy what with their faith in god and stuff? I am essentially an atheist and don't believe in the judeochristian god. I felt godless and depressed. I was told to look at my group as a higher power- they were what kept me there in rehab, against all odds, and I loved them and they loved me.
