It's weird as hell, too, cause I'm a pretty big guy. Back in my early high school years when I was short and scrawny I'd smoke week all day, pretty much every day, and be perfectly fine. Now I'm ~6'2 and 230lbs and I can barely smoke at all.
I first started out not being able to smoke at all because I was on oxys all the time and I just felt like I couldn't breathe. I got clean, started smoking a little bit and would be high as a kite. Now I drink pretty often, which is the only time I ever feel like smoking, and 2 hits off a bowl or 4-5 from a joint have me feeling like it's the first time I ever smoked again.
To be honest, it's actually pretty nice getting high so easily. I barely smoke so I never really pitch in with my friends, which means 90% of the weed I buy goes straight to me. A quarter lasts me fucking forever

You pretty much described me to a Tee, lol. My job is pretty extensive physical labor, and I only work with 2 other people. One smokes a ton of weed, and the other just drinks a ton of beer. I do a bit of drinking, a little smoke, go to bed 5 hours before I have to get up for work and I'm 100% functional while the other two guys are at 70% max every day.
I honestly don't understand how because I feel like I get the most fucked up, most days of the week. Then again I've been working hard pretty much my whole life so I'm probably used to it

Anybody who says the smell of any liquor is less than beer is a fucking idiot. I've gone to work/concerts/social gatherings/family's houses after taking a few shots of whiskey or vodka, and that smell is straight ingrained into you. Brushing your teeth and putting gum in really doesn't even help most of the time, like with beer.
I almost got fired from my job before because I walked in reeking of vodka. I showered, brushed my teeth, used mouth wash and ate breakfast. It was still all anybody could smell apparently

I actually totally feel you. I had a bad experience with Jack as a teenager and was put off of whiskey for a very long time. I still can't even stand the smell of Jack. I think most of us have that one alcohol we can't fuck with anymore. I only recently started warming back up to it. I guess maybe I wouldn't recommend you go out of your way to buy a bottle of Buffalo Trace, but if you see it at a bar or otherwise have a chance to try a taste, you might surprise yourself.

Different fag here. My problem isn't acting drunk in the morning, it's smelling like alcohol in the morning. It's not on my breath, it's just coming out of my pores. But it's gotten me into a couple of uncomfortable and almost dangerous conversations with upper management. If I don't get 7-8 hours I run that risk. Fortunately these days I'm at another company and my boss lives in another state. I'm sure some of my people have noticed it but I treat them well and get the feeling I'm pretty well liked. I'm 38, been drinking whiskey for 20 years, everyday for at least 15 years. I'm completely hooked but i don't seem to have a real problem with it. yea I feel like shit sometimes but I have a job and no DUI's and shit. its not so bad if you get a grip on it and don't chug it all day and all night

See, that's weird. I used to have to show up at any fucked up time for my job. It wasn't just around coworkers, but around 10 levels of 3rd party customers also. I'd talk to some of the guys I trusted most they might say they noticed, but no one else ever said shit, supervisor included. Not sure now why it never became an issue. To my credit I was pretty good at timing it out.

not totally true if you go to an AA meeting you'll see the redneck next to the guy in a $2000 suit. Alcohol is a succubus and targets all kinds of people. Those who ate high educated usually have the good sense to avoid this literal poison but one of my old counselors had a patient who was a judge in appeals court if I recall correctly and despite having a degree in law and 15 years plus on the bench they dealt with the stress of their job by drinking

Honestly, I was in college for Mechanical Engineering but the amount of paperwork I had to do made me want to kill myself. Also, if someone gets hurt or dies when a structure collapses, it comes back on the engineers and not the construction crew, so I probably avoided a few lawsuits. Also, fuck the math classes you have to take for engineering. Everything post-calculus was absolutely useless.

I know that feel, I treat every car I touch like I'm putting my own family in it. if I wouldn't drive them in it, I'll tell a customer straight up its unsafe. hell I put a spare tire on a farm truck and of course it was an 18 inch steel rim with a load class E tire and despite using the correct torque spec, torque stick, torque wrench and tightening sequence the fucker came off on the highway. when I came in the next day and they told me I went as white as a sheet because I immediately thought I killed someone.
