I've been trying to find these for quite some time. The one I keep at home finally dried out.
Tried gel pens by Zebra, but those smeared all over the paper.
Finally went back to my mainstay of Pilot G2-07 before buying a pack of Pilot G2-10s back in August. The 10s seem to skip more than the sevens, but it is smooth when it does work, which is a majority of the time.

You can use a modern, gel ink pen and it not be clicky/retractable. Those give such a vague feel, since the inside parts are loose and move around. It's like writing with a spring. A fixed pen like the Signo UM-151 gives a much better clean line and better feel.

Well the best pen for general use would be the Uniball Jetstream. The G2 seems good at first but as you get more into pens you see how the G2 skips and is inconsistent. But then again the best pens are fountain pens. But the Uniball Jetstream is best for everyday use because of its performance, convenience, and affordability.

The only real way to compare pens according to my logic would be to set the demographic with allotted pens from the mass produced facility that makes those G2s, vs a fresh massive order from Mont Blancs engineers.
