Great book. Have you read this book is full of spiders also?
>>
>>675310315

Great book. His new one (Futuristic Violence and Fancy Suits) is fun also. Has a few flaws, but largely enjoyable.
>>
>>675310633
I actually just got it in the mail today and am looking forward to reading it, i heard it is extremely dark compared to jdate but i also think that wouldnt be a bad thing,I'm looking to get his most recent book Future violence and fancy suits its appearently jdate but scifi

Fucking great book, although it is not perfect, i have a ton of things i got annoyed of in John Dies

But i must recommend The Silmarillion
>>
>>675310995

Spiders is similar to jdate in a lot of ways. I mean, same characters and world and all.

There are definitely recurring themes and habits throughout all of his works.
>>
>>675310900
I though Futuristic Violence and Fancy Suits was great. JDATE is an instant classic, movie left a lot to be desired though, and I feel that FV&FS would do better as a film. Like it seemed written in defined acts and such
>>
>>675311153
What about it annoys you?
>>675311214
I enjoy his wise ass writing style while also painting a good picture of a situation it's why i like the books so much although the ending kills me with what was in the shed I wanted to know more about it, the ending felt rushed to me even though i love the book

this is god tier to me
>>
>>675311503
I saw the movie first to find out that it was a book first and even though the movie was good it was a bummer how they left out alot of the best parts of the book, the part that annoyed me the most was they combined jennifer and amy into one character, while amy is superior
>>
>>675311535

Wise ass is nice. And yeah, the motherfuck of a Red Herring that is the first book's title killed me.
>>
>>675311834
not going to lie i fucking loved that book in highschool still think of lenny as sloth as i read it
>>
>>675310995
I wouldn't call futuristic violence and fancy suits JDATE but SciFi. Not at all, in fact its such a different premise I would say its on its own; perhaps ever as a genre. If anything it is a whole new subsec of SciFi. David Wong is fantastic I would recommend all his books.

Oh my fucking god the reveal with book Amy killllllllllllllllled me.

Oh, and there's an evil little reveal in the second book, too. ;)
>>
>>675310633
Spiders was great. Can't wait for part 3
>>
>>675311834
Pretty much any Steinbeck is god-tier. See Grapes of Wrath, East of Eden, and so on
>>
>>675311153
I enjoyed reading this as well.
>>
>>675311535
i love the "holy shit where did he think of this shit" things he comes up with, but then he'll suddenly drop them like they never existed a few pages later.

Like the Wig Monsters, they seemed like a pretty big chunk of the story, until half way through they never really appear ever again.

its just things like that, another example is near the end. He has another soy sauce "vision" of him being inside of a plane, with no context as to what will happen. Last example is the scene with the giant floating jellyfish.

its been a good 4 years since ive read it so cut me a little loose if i totally described something wrong
>>
>>675311834
That one was great, Grapes of Wrath was my fav though. Although I did skip the philosophical pieces, the story of the Joad family was wonderful
>>
>>675311925
George is also fucking awesome, motherfucker can crush skulls with his bare hands
>>
>>675311970
so far i only know of jdate spiders and fv fs i would love to read anymore books of his i know he is a writer on cracked.com havent looked into that stuff though
>>675312020
i swear id like to keep it as spoiler free as possible man
>>
>>675312000
is it a research about autists ?
>>
>>675312166

He's great. Ass Gangsters 4 was certainly his best work, but it gets so little love.
>>
Everyone I lend JDATE to loves the book, but I haven't found anyone who has already read the book. Kinda cool to see there are DW fans on /b
>>
>>675312234
i got the names mixed up but thats what i meant hahaha
>>
>>675312166
currently reading Grapes of Wrath. Struggling a little with some words though, being french, im reading the original language

there is a scene where the main charecter (jesus its been a while) john and the redheaded girl venture into an old abondoned shopping mall, i think to go retrieve something? anyways, they shoot down some weird moose/demon thing, grab some ammo, and i remember for sure that david (i think thats his name?) is sent up a secret elevator by accident

saying all that made me realize how batshit crazy this book is

>>
>>675313213
It adds a bit more to the story with some more details and things cut out. I saw the film before I read the book and that will always affects my interprentation of the book. But reading the book really gave another level

Don't have pic, but I know most of us have read A Clockwork Orange.

I had a copy with a nadsat glossary in the back. Also the original(?) ending. Where instead of just haveing the ludovico technique reversed it extends to him growing up and having a son of hs own so his child can get into the crazy shitt he used to get up to. It was guud

His trailer was so fucked. I think that its good that they didn't delve deeper into it then as it would take away a lot of the mystery before the series even began, but, not that I know anything, but the third book might shed a little light on Robert.

I'm guessing Hitchhikers Guide To The Galaxy is mentioned but I'll drop it anyway.

The only god tier I can think of right now. One or two of the song of ice and fire books is/are also god tier but I can't remember which one(s).
>>
>>675314673
No, there are superheroes, and you get some flashback chapters of when it was superheroes vs villains, but then zombies happen, and superheroes band together to try to stop the world from ending. This all happens before the book starts, so basically the remaining heroes are starting a settlement in Hollywood on an old movie set lot, playing guardians/police and trying to restart society with what they think are the last remaining human survivors. Sometimes villains from the past show up. Sometimes these villains are leading gangs of raiders. sometimes they are zombies themselves. Like the sorcerer who can take the form of a giant humanoid lizard beast, he was zombified in beast form. Badass stories

Be ready. I got the first book for $1 on a google Play sale one morning, something about finding new series.

Suddenly it was night and I had finished the first book and bought all the others. The Most recent one just came out last month.

to be honest, the 4th book in the series is kind of a slow read if you've read all the others, but overall the series is A+
>>
>>675316125
i mean if i could get the 1st for a buck now that would be great but i do enjoy having physical copies of books and its sadly where most of my paycheck has been going its probably going to sit in my wishlist until i buy it then binge read it

EX-Heroes
EX-Patriots
EX-Communication
EX-Purgatory
EX-Isle

>>
>>675316914
When you say "last one" does the series end or is that just the latest of the series to be released?
>>
>>675317010
Not sure, haven't had a chance to read it yet, been moving the last few weeks.

So I guess it's the latest, may be the last, who knows. I hope it's not. This concept has the option for sooo many different stories. And since they are all original heroes/villains, they can introduce new ones at any time. Fucking amazing.
>>
>>675317417
With the success of Walking Dead and all the super hero movies I wonder if it would be considered for a franchise of movies or shows?
>>
>>675316914
I thought EX-Isle was a little rushed, but still really good.

>>675315532
You should def take the time to read Hitch Hikers.
The whole trilogy (of 5 books, despite the name) is only around 5-600 pages.

So you can read the first book and then choose if you want more.

It's not a 1000 page mission you will have to spend hours and hours on to waiting for it to be good just because you've heard it's good.
>>
>>675317868
i know the books are relatively cheap to pick up and they are on my list i know from stuf it does start out slow which i dont mind but the seemingly lorecentic story around it is what makes it lower on my list of books that i want to read

looking back at what i said i dont know to be honest just a big story im hesitant to hop into just because im not really in the mood for it
>>
>>675318953
Okey. Yeah I get that fully.
That's why it's good the first book is so short. It won't be a burden if it's meh.

If you read a lot, wait for the mood. But I've waited for mood for years for some books, and that's just to long. If I wait for years I might die before I read them - and Hitchhikers Guide is something I think most people should read before they die.
>>
>>675319528
yeah man it seems like a great story that doesnt have a cancerous fanbase like alot of fantasy books i can think of and the premise and light hearted comedy of it is what draws me to it im invested in david wongs work right now but im thinking this is the series i will pick up after i finish up his books
