Does anyone else get extreme feels when they think about their childhood? I think back to Super Smash Bros, Mario Kart 64, Ocarina of Time, Pokemon Stadium, all those shitty VHS tapes I watched a hundred times, watching TV every morning with my brother (in jail now), watching playoff hockey with my dad at 1:00 AM, everything. It was all so perfect.

Please, take me back...

It's called nostalgia, most people get it for shit from their childhood or stupid things.
I think of the Ninja Turtles cartoon, playing Frogger with my dad, getting to stay up late to watch Beavis and Butt-Head, my friend who was always wondering what nipples were.

I hear ya. I wish for the same thing.

>>675179335
I hate my childhood. I was alone and the only thing i had was Sega, my dog and cartoons.
However my mother was alive then...so its a mixed feeling i guess.

childhood life is 100x more intense than adult life for most people. it's normal to feel that way.

things just fade to grey as you get older as you learn to care less and less. your formative experiences in life generally are your best (or worst).

you'll never have more intense experiences, better friends, worse enemies, bigger disappointments, hotter girls, bigger crushes, etc etc etc than you did as a kid. It's just how life works.
>>
>>675179939
This. We choose to remember the good times and ignore the bad times when looking back, unless it was something tragic. Coupled with the fact that not much can really be bad when you're young (things that sucked were generally hidden from the kids), our pasts are viewed through rose colored glsssed

This is true in the burbs.
In the life experienced by the majority of people in the world childhood is a rehearsal for the big stage. The intensity stays the same but you develop different needs and have a stake in it all. There is also the terrible heaviness of responsibility to give it all drama that has to be taken seriously.
Modern urban civilisation and the fluffy suburbs were created to escape from 'real life', where being 'close to nature' means getting a seed stuck in your teeth that leads to an infection that causes a heart condition and you die at 32 with plenty of real friends, enemies, goals and wishes all left behind.
Nostalgia is poison, you go around once, be afraid of too much comfort if it's letting you spend much time thinking of toys you played with before you were ten.

I sat and watched someone play turok 2 seeds of evil on youtube because it was the first game my brother showed me how to play. I still remember the master cheat code... he went to afghanistan and never came back.

I listen to sittin at a bar, by rehab, and I remember buying a house with my wife who was my first girlfriend and my true love, we refinished it that summer listening to it on the radio. My life left me and the house was sold years ago.

The long drive to my parents house was lined with honeysuckle, and the slightest whiff takes me back to the days of riding the bus and smelling summer on its way, knowing that I'll be home before I know it, and mom and dad will play outside with me and teach me how to garden and care for animals... The house was torn down after my mom died and dad went to a nursing home.

My nostalgia isn't so many happy memories, but more a reminder that everything I've loved ended up leaving me in some way.

I don't want to live in this head anymore.

Sitting at my grandmother's tiny yellow house with an n64 playing ocarina of time, box fans sitting on the floor because no a/c.
sitting criss cross in front of the huge magnavox tv that made a hissing sound and took 10 whole seconds to display the image after you turned it on.

changing to channel 3 to be able to play the game. Bologna sandwiches in hand.
playing outside looking for bugs and playing on the trampoline, then heading back inside at dark and waiting for wheel of fortune to go off so we could play the nintendo again.

also pic fuckin related

I like threads like this, just because of the nostalgia and remembering the good times as a kid.

I got picked on a lot (because sperg), so my main escape was video games. Pokemon Gold and Johto were my home away from home, and my house was in a real pretty spot in the summertime.

Of course, if I'd known the consequences of my teenage stupidity, I'd certainly have done that a lot differently, but when I was a young kid I remember being absolutely captivated by the hill my back yard used to be before we had the addition built on the house.
My old yellow lab as a puppy and watching her go.
Fighting Red on Mt. Silver for the first time. Taking down Ganon and watching adult Link strike those final blows.
Hearing the prelude play after beating FF9.
Standing up to some of the ocean waves at the state park and laughing like a retard when one knocked me down.

I can't recapture any of it, but maybe I can use that nostalgia and create with it...

your brain has a huge bias towards idealizing events in your past. it tends to omit all the shitty things that were boring, or upsetting you, or annoying you at the time and just focuses on what made you happy, and because its all cloudy and fuzzy in your mind, it takes on a mysterious dreamy appealing form, and the lucid reality of now seems cold and unappealing. theres also the fact that memories are not to be trusted, chances are the things and events you remember from 10 or 20 years ago are not as much like your memory as youd like to think. if you actually went back there youd be surprised and disappointed at how different they are to the vision in your minds eye.

tl'dr your brain makes the past seem 100x better than it really was.

tbh OP, I think alot of it has to do with a few factors. In comparison of our current life and our past life, our current is much more shittier in reality. Back then we literally had no worries. Who gave a fuck about school, paying bills, keeping your job, getting a gf, you didn't give a shit about what you look liked. We were in our own world ALL the time. We can't do that no more as grown ups. We realize all the hardships in real life and it fucking sucks but that's life.

I think shit got bad when 9/11 happened. I'm from NYC so I know from a 11 year old perspective, how bad it was. People became paranoid when they heard planes, bomb threats at schools, anthrax in the mail that made people so afraid to even check their mail box, armed guards at Manhatten, people stocking up on supplies in case another terrorist attack, islamaphobia at all time high. There were counselors that use to come to our classes to talk to us about what happened and what is going on in the news. That was all 2001 and it cooled down after 2002. If anything, 9/11 is what contributed to the recession. Many businesses lost at the towers. For me, mid 2003 to 2007 was the shit though.

Then she would clean the house, make lunch and dinner for me. She was the cool Kelly Bundy hot 80s girl. She would look out for me, forge my moms name on school forms and report cards. Then she would watch Scooby Doo, play vid. games with me, and punch me if I won. Good old times. We will never get them back brother, Just know that you are not alone. We all long for the 90s days when ur older sis would take care of us, forge our moms name, play video games with us, then make us lunch. We've all been there. Man, the 90s were diamonds. Perfect. I would give everything I own to go back into those innocent 90s (older cool sis looking out for us) arcade playing blockbuster renting days.

i was a kid in the 80s and even though being a kid and not giving a fuck is part of the nostalgia, i realize now how awesome it was. good music. no internet or twitter shit (we didn't care for others opinions back then). kids were able to able to actually play and explore the neighborhood or go the park alone as long as we were home before dark.

i never really thought about suicide as a kid, the way i saw it, my real life could be really shit but as long as i had my games i would always have something to live for. it wasnt until i became an adult and games could no longer fill the voids in my life that i became severely depressed and began to consider my options. even though i was an intelligent child and constantly told i had good prospects by teacers, i never did anything with it and my life has pretty much been skimming along rock bottom since leaving school. i think if you are singled out and getting shit throughout your school life, then its one of those things which either makes you or breaks you, unfortunately i think it broke me.

i could post an interview where he explicitly says it outside the context of the ad, but youre so thickheaded that youll probably go "eugh, anon, that interview came out within three years of the ad, so its still just viral marketing". quit being a faggot, people name their kids stupid shit all the time. kevin smith's daughter is named fucking harley quinn.

thanks for asking man, it really does mean something. She got a tit job, got married, and became a nurse. I remember her forging our moms name on all school forms. If I just wanted out of school for a day she would call and pretend to be my mom. She was so fucking cool. I used to skip school and watch her shows with her (Little house on the prairei and Days of Our Lives). She was the main care taker in my life. My mom was a bon bon eating always gone nothing. My old man was good, but was never around. My older sis was the coolest. She love to beat my ass in Mario Kart. She would always get me out of trouble (was an artist who could forge anyones name). Cool as shit. Shes still kickin, were all old now, but man, just to have one of those old 90s days back. I'd give my left nut to be 12 again and playing mario kart with her.

11 or 12 yrs old were the best years of my life. that age is the perfect mix of naive enough to not worry about anything, but developed enough to enjoy most things, and not having everything complicated by puberty yet. what an age, such happy times.

Is our generation so nostalgic at a young age because it shows how shitty current times are?

the political and social climate is definitely one of the main reasons i retreat into my thoughts and long for my past, yes. even the 90s seem like a completely different world to the one we live in now. everything just started going batshit after the millennium.
>>
>>675193387
No, everyone always hates change. EVERY generation is nostalgic for the time they grew up in, and they all think it was the best. It's the dumbest shit ever.
>>
>>675193798
>political and social climate

there goes your problem. politics sucks. we're back to the "which old white person do you want to be president?" times again. it never changes.
>>
>>675193264
Hear you bro. Wish we could both go back in time and play Mario Kart with my sis. Such a good time, nothing better than the 80s and 90s. My older sis could forge anyones name in 10 minutes. She would always get me out If I needed a day off of school. My parents were around, but she was pretty much my main care taker. Showd me how to be cool, got me out of class and signed most of my report cards. Played Mario Kart like a bitch. Beat my ass if I won. Had to watch her shows. Got nintendo power in the mail. Good fucking times man. We will never get them back. But lets never forget.

Back when things were simple.
>>
>>675194658
They were simple cause you were dumb and had everything spoonfed to you. You want that feeling again? Do everything you can for machine automation. If there's no point in work, there's no point in money, which means you can be a child again.

I definitely understand my friend, it's strange in my eyes lol but that's the most effective nostalgia to me
>>
Yes, I get terribly nostalgic all the time. Most recently I was thinking about when I was young, going to the video store with my dad and older brother.

My dad would pick out a few movies and let my brother and I pick out a game, and it was just something the three of us did together regularly and I hadn't thought about how much I cherished those moments in a very long time. We never do anything together anymore..

Heres a hug bro. I dont have that feels pic saved, but I remember. Read my posts. 90s were a time of your older sibling bailing you out, and playing fucking nintendo. Its an era that will never be matched. But I feel. I feel hard for them times. Older sis forging your moms name on your report card, then beating your ass in mario kart. Making you watch Ricki Lake and Days of Our Lives? Good times. Never will we get them back. But we have the memories. I feel you. Have a anon hug bro. Take it inch by inch.
>>
I actually really wanted to hang out with friends back then. I could see my dad then, I did good in school back then. Someone please take me back for one last ride.
>>
I remember play Ocarina of Time with my buddy almost every Saturday. I wouldn't even touch the game until he came over. I also remember throwing away Serias' Ocarina when I got the Ocarina of Time. My friend was like " Dude, why didn't you sell it?". To this day, I still don't know why.

Good times

I want to take you back brother. Remember Nintendo Power Magazine? Remember your older sibling knew all the cool bands and could drive you around? Remember when yoyos became a thing again? Help me help you bro. Say a word, and Ill try to nostalgia it for you. I grew up in the 90s, I want you to feel all the feels you can get. Remember your cool older sister pretending to be your mom when the school called? Lets feel all the nostalgia bro.
