The reason so many obese people blame genetics is because they usually do try to lose weight but always fail. They fail because their mental state is all scrambled. When eating an entire pizza for dinner is their "normal" they think eating only half of one counts as "dieting." If they're shown what actually counts as healthy eating they assume that's the equivalent of starvation. The combination of dieting failures and a skewed sense of normal eating habits means that they just plain assume that it's genetic or something out of their control. This is why obesity has to be tackled from a psychological standpoint.
That's the problem with the fat acceptance movement. It's enabling what amounts to addiction. Imagine if there were a Heroin Acceptance movement or an Alcoholic Acceptance movement. It's literally a case of giving up on people in the throes of addiction. It's not fat acceptance. It's fat surrender.

A calorie is not a calorie.
A calorie from protein/fat is metabolised very differently from calories from carbohydrates. So 4000 in protein 40% carb 40% fat 20% would have a different effect than protein 20% carb 60% fat 20%.
It's also the makeup of the food you put in your mouth, chocolate (simple refined carb) and cauliflower/broccoli (complex Carb) the effect these have on blood sugar, hormones and fat tissue is vastly different.
So muscle builder eating 4000 calories everyday would be very different to hamplanets 4000 calories a day. This isn't even getting into the stimulus (the body responding to the effort it's exposed to)
