Need sum advice from the bikers of b/ I'm going to take the BRC. I read the motorcycle manual. An have a good understanding of it. Did sum research on it too. An for a 1st time rider an buyer it's saying get a 250cc. With that being said I feel like I would get bored real fast with it. An I would just be wasting my money on it. With me takin the BRC how much of a difference would it be starting on a 600. Sum thing I could grow into and wanna keep for years.
> pic related the bike I wanna get
>>
Self bump will check thread in ten mins. Hopefully I get sum feed back.
>>
Im hard biased towards Harleys but you could have some fun with that as long as you dont ride like an idiot and get yourself hurt. As far as difference between this and the 250 the only real difference is gonna be in performance at higher speeds, which you should probably avoid anyway i your just starting anyway so in conclusion get the bigger one
>>
You read the manual?
Great, just buy the biggest bike you can find.
No point starting smaller when you will just get a bigger one anyway right?
>>
>>674840732
Thanks for your input
>>
get the 600. only pussies start off at 250, shit gets boring fast. can't move around traffic when you have to downshift all the time to get any speed. good luck with the test.
>>
No you absolutely want a 600cc. 250cc are not only boring but if you weigh more than 100 pounds you'll put a lot of strain on the motor at highway speeds.
>>
>>674839844
Get a GSX-R1000 for your first bike. Nothing could possibly go wrong.
>>
>>674841250
>>674841378
OP samefagging his own post? This is the only way he would get advice this retarded.
>>
>>674841378
He shouldn't be on the freeway if he's just learning to ride, nigger. It's actually illegal in a lot of states.
>>
>>674839844
Youve never even rode before
get the 250 so you dont fucking kill yourself like an idiot
You obviously dont know how fast 90 mph actually is
>>
>>674839844
get a suzuki gs500f, then move onto the suzuki sv650

>>
>>674841788
Hey, I've been wrong before. That's just terrible advice.

Get the 250 and learn how to shift and keep it off the ground. Drive it for a couple months and get something faster.
>>
>>674841250

I've had a Ninja 250 since 2008 and I've never upgraded because I got married in 2011 and the wife won't let me buy a new bike but she won't make get rid of the one I have.

So I've spent forever on this bike and I can tell you a few things:

* A 250 goes fast enough to hurt/kill you just like the big bikes. I have plates in my left arm to prove it.

* A 250 is a great practical bike for commuting in, out, and around large urban areas because of its lightweight.

* The 250 is great for learning about how to manage the powerband of your machine in turns - with a big bike you might never learn the intricacies.

* The ninja 250 is affordable, cheap as dirt, and reliable. I highly recommend it as a starting/commuting bike to everyone.

* The 250 cannot go faster then ~100mph. It is exactly enough machine for all legal and some just-above-legal situations and nothing more.

* IF your first bike is going to be a supersport make sure you're getting it cheap like that 636 because you ARE going to crash the hell out of it. Multiple times. You have a lot of muscle memory to develop with riding - especially countersteering. If you go above 15/20mph on a bike for the first time and you don't know how to lean it over into turns you're going to crash real fast!
>>
>>674841857
Oh yeah? Enlighten me.
>>
>>674839844
Bikes are cheap, you're not wasting money. You'll still have lots of fun on the 250.

Is this your first time on a bike ever? Did you ride dirtbikes as a kid maybe?

If this is your very first bike, then please get the 250. You can do 100+ and pass easily on the highway.
>>
>>674841734
Only reasonable advice in whole thread.
>>
i prefer the faggio

Not planing on riding on the freeway. Plus I live in slower lower Delaware and all thats h ere is the highway. Till u get up to Dover. The bikes going to be used to get to an from work and the joyride on my days off

I personally got a zx6 as a first bike and it legit kick ass : easy to ride, not too heavy, and has a lot of power for a 600. Would highly recommend you one.
>>
>>674839844
Get the 600. It's easy to start on, and has a bit more power for you when you're more advanced. I started on a shadow.
>>
>>674842407
Yea I have. But I'm sure there's a lil difference there.
>>
>>674842327
Highway is 60mph and usually 1 lane. Freeway is 75mph and can be upwards of 4 or 5 lanes with much more traffic flow and more of those god damn semis
>>
>>674842125
>>674842204
OP, I would strongly suggest you Listen to these guys.
>>
>>674839844
Judge yourself. If you can stay focused and aren't a fucking retard, get the cheapest fuel injected 600 you can buy. You're going to fucking drop it anyway. If you buy a 250 you'll feel like a faggot in a month and that's the truth.

If you can't stay focused and avoid doing stupid shit.. Don't get a fucking bike fuckstick
>>
>>674842891
Don't listen to any of them. Get the bigger one.
>>
>>674842573
You can ride the fastest bikes in the world slow. Just be smart and be careful. If you're afraid a 250 will be too slow now, you'll be certain after riding one for a couple of weeks
>>
>>674839844
250 and you will indeed find yourself getting bored with it, and honestly, you wont have the speed to get away from the pack, which you don't want to be driving in as an invisible biker. You'll also be kicking yourself if you take the freeway, get ABS if you can, it's hard to train yourself to not overbreak when shit hits the fan.
>>
>>674842733
There's a difference but it helps a lot that you have any experience at all. You'll have some basics down.
>>
Ninja 250 owner here. I love it better than my 600. It feels light, agile, I can corner better than other bikes, and just feels more fun.

That's completely dependent on the state, Einstein. There isn't anywhere within 500 miles of me that has a 75 mph speed limit, so you're telling me we don't have freeways?
>>
>>674843138
Good point here, how do you want to ride op? cruising or zipping around?
>>
Get the 600cc bike dude. Started on myself on this fuckers
>>
>>674839844
Get a dirt bike you pleb, grass is softer than asphault but it will still keep you alive. When you're going fifty mph on an 800+ pound bike with a passenger and you hit a curb, knowing how to pull yourself out of it without sliding onto your side will save you pain or worse.
>>
Be a fucking squid and get a new liter bike as your first one.
>>
>>674843390
I am, you're probably mistaking them for highways and interstates
>>
>>674842930
Source: first bike was a vfr800, moved to a zx14, then replaced that with a new 14. Still riding it. My ex gf got a 250, took a 500 hit to sell and buy a zzr600, dropped the 600 four times at stoplights because it was so much heavier. Sold that at a small loss and got a yammy 600r. The 250 step was unnecessary tbh.

Get a 250 if you're looking for an efficient commuter. If you think motorcycles are cool EC, get a six you're not afraid to dent up a little

The biggest factor in this equation is your control over your own hand. You'll die on a 250 just as dead as a liter bike, it just won't punish mistakes so harshly
>>
Been riding since I was 16.

>>674842204
OP you should listen to this guy.
>>
Since this is a bike thread, curious how many other anons have had to put their bike down/have road rash?
>>
>>674843613
or maybe you have no idea what the fuck you're talking about.

Yeah, I think I'll go with that.
>>
>>674843593
And if you ignore that, buy a honda and tear around an empty parking lot for a few hours to learn proper shifting and breaking. Hondas wont get their worth back but beating one to hell wont be so expencive as tearing up a speeder or harley.
>>
> op here again
where I live it's more country. The highways are two lanes. I will say RT.1 gets busy droning the summer time from all the outer staters come. An OC Maryland is about a 45min drive from here I live.

>>
>>674843816

>>
>>674843816
Everyone puts their bike down at some point. The people that say they never have are lying or haven't been riding very long.
>>
>>674839844
I think this answers your question
>>
>>674843987
Same with bikes but morons still take them into the woods on trails for fun. Much like your mom.
>>
Get a dual sport, so you can learn to slide on purpose on dirt instead of learning to slide on accident on pavement
>>
>>674843816
I've crashed my supermotos when I was riding like an ass but never my sportsbikes
>>
>>674843883
you might enjoy a KLR then, good balance between transportation and offroad play, theres a reason they are so fuckin popular. I learned to ride on a KLR 650
>>
>>674842579
Absolutely. I bought a zx6 as my first bike. Still have it actually. Definitely has more than enough power.
>>
>>674843883
I'll second this, a vstrom would be even better if you are street oriented. Capable and confident on anything you could drive a car on, but not as dirt bikey as the klr.. Better seat too

my first bike was an 04 kawasaki ninja 500. twin cylinder, plenty of power. will get up to 130mph real quick.

cheap to run and maintain and still fun as hell to ride fast.

I actually regret selling it
>>
>>674844845
kek
>>
>>674843391
Both really. But If I go with the 600 I'm going to take my time and grow into the bike.
>>
I went from never riding to a Honda CBR 600rr. I just rode around the block. I dropped it a few times at low speeds. Mostly just getting use to turning and when to shift at low speed. When I felt good riding around my neighborhood I expanded to the hwy. About a year later I felt like I should have went with the 1000rr lol. Just get some frame sliders and learn slow. Don't get a 250.
>>
>>674845145
500 I did not even think about them. The only reason why I might get the 600 is the price
>>
>>674844113
this is truth.

>YOU WILL GO DOWN AT SOME POINT, ESPECIALLY JUST LEARNING. NINJA 500 OR SMALLER. EASY TO REPAIR.
>>
>>674845156
You've answered yourself there. I promise you you'll regret a 250. Don't listen to the betafags telling you otherwise. As long as you respect the bike for what it's capable of and don't do anything out of your skill/comfort level you will be fine
>>
>>674839844
Nigger tyake advice from drunk bioker anon. You don't the insurance, you become one with the motorbicycle. Make it an extensiuionm of your bnody and will. What it does you do, what you do it does, you think it acts. You are a single being, if you fuck a chick, it fucks a chick. 600's can be monsters yes, but if you respect it and it respects you, you'll be aiiight, make it scared of you. but dont ever make a mistake, it will bite you on the wee wee

and insurance is a fuck

Here's my advice for OP, assuming he's not a troll and still here.

I got my endorsement a year ago. First bike I bought was a Suzuki GZ250 off of Craigslist for $800. It was a 99, had just over 2k miles on it. You learn a lot on 250's because you have a to shift a lot. You'll also learn basic bike maintenance (or at least you should). After looking online, I was able to change oil, spark plugs, and air filter. Beyond that, if I dropped it (like everyone will, at some point), who gives a shit? It's a starter bike. It's supposed to get dents and scrapes. Trust me. Learning a lesson on a 250cc engine is likely more forgivable than learning on a 600 (or more) cc.

Just today, I picked up my 2013 Suzuki Boulevard C50. The step up was great, but I'm far more comftable on this bike than I would have been if I didn't start on the 250.

Yes, the 250 is a smaller engine.
Yes, your top speed will be around 60-65, maybe more depending on your weight.

Getting "bored" is a matter of opinion.

tl;dr; get the 250, save up for something better. Your future self will thank you.
>>
>>674845690
ok it's me again, i stareted on a 250, i'm glad I did, i8 madfde mistakes where a 600 would have teaten my ass, even if it's just for a couple of months, a 250 will teach you basic shit about the road that a 600 wor bigger would eat you o9n
>>
>>674846206
see
>>674845145

that's my post. you can get 500s cheap and they keep their value. repairs are cheap too for when you go down.

it'll cost if you put a real sportbike down at higher speeds if you bend the fork, break a wheel, etc.

>just some advice, been riding 10 years since i was 19

OH and ride like everyone is out to kill you, because they are. trust me.
>>
i started off on a WR 450 was awesome.

Thank you all for UR input. But I do believe I have made my mind up and going to get the 600. And with me taking the BRC class I will have a better feel for the downshifting ect ect. If you all wanna keep the thread going plz do.

Here's a old but funny pic that gets me every time

>>674846655
500s cost just as much if not more than a zx6s parts would because they mass produce parts for more popular bikes it makes them ALOT cheaper to buy but not necessarily to have installed
>>
I started on a 900cc. As long as you respect the bike and its power your fine. I have a friend that started on a 1200cc and never laid it over. Go to a dealer, sit on a few bikes, see what you feel comfortable on, and get one accordingly

Get a qualified mechanic to give it the once over, make sure there's no major faults. If it's in good nick, buy it. Keep it for about 6 months or until you feel fully confident on it then sell it. You'll get your money back and be able to upgrade to a 600 then
