It depends on the psychologist - if they can be non-judgemental, and that is not a given, you regain your sense of self, of being 'normal' (just not the more common sort of normal).
You can also learn more about methods of avoiding the thoughts. OP has spoken of shifting the line of thought to something else, like baseball. Lose the fantasy and you lose the boner.

Hey, thanks. It means a lot that there are people out there who remember that we're human beings. I genuinely hate that a young girl can flip my switch, especially since I was also abused as a kid. And like OP, I love kids. I consider them to generally be precious and one of the few things worth protecting. Between my moral compass, empathy and fear of the law, I've never touched a child and, knock on wood, I never will.

I think the reason pedophiles are so demonized and despised is because you only hear about the ones that commit the crime, most pedophiles live and die dead-set on never telling a soul their biggest shame despite never having acted on your urges. Agree. Germany has a program of commercials that offer help to those that 'think they love kids too much'. Group therapy apparently with emphasis on control and avoidance. UK and Canada have 'Circles' which is sort of like AA, but only for those who have been convicted.

I have been able to compare both private and mandated treatment. The government one was crap, through all types of sex offenders into the same group and tried a 'one-size-fits-all' approach. It also concentrated on shame to control you rather than rebuilding your confidence.
I've been pretty blessed with my private psychologist - he was for rebuilding, and has.
Go look at the German method, and the UK Circles - they may give you a better view.

Not OP. It's partially about dominating. But that isn't the whole story. Children are very open and honest, and if they love you, they love you. No ifs, ands or buts. It's not about money or your car or power politics. It's about "I love you and it feels good." I wish it could be like that with adults.
