50 was just an example. I mean most of Americans talk that earning 40-50k per year is not much. However, when you divide it by 12, it is a lot, over 4000 per month. Is it before taxes then? Or are people really used to high salaries?

A bit of advice for your customers. Stop creating modules with PDF outputs in 2 stacked rows per primary dataset. View your output as the user would.

I get paid the same regardless of the client, only plus to ERP work for me is much more lenient expenses policies.

I'm not sure what direction to push things next though, if I lean more toward the business end of things that typically surrounds ERP work then it'll be better for career longevity, but it's so fucking dull.
>>
>>674665602
>ERP
>what the user wants

If you want a user friendly ERP go to one of the niche startup ERP firms. You go to SAP or Oracle because it's tried and tested, and you have the money to spend on 3 year implementations that run over budget and over time.

Problem is in most circumstances the usability will be an afterthought when you're struggling to get the solution out the door in time with the minimum required functionality, and once that's done, any and all resources will be needed elsewhere, meaning there's no one left but green new support teams, with far too much on their plate for any kind of continuous improvement.

Not an ideal situation, but unfortunately how things usually end up.

And I usually try to keep as far away from users as possible, I generally leave that the BAs.

Hindsight is great isn't it? The joy of being a consultant, at least in my specialism, is that once I've delivered, it's no longer my problem. I do tend to feel morally obliged to not give clients absolute shit though, because I've had to deal with absolute shit from people.

What we need are product sets that don't need the endless tweaking and can work together, in a vendor agnostic way. Not that that will ever happen. Spent 3 weeks just trying to get a client to okay a tool because it was open source and they didn't like that.

Is it worth going for IT (I mean a REAL CS degree, not this wishwash program) to University or most likely not?
>>
>>674667844
Everything in SAP is a bitch. However their components do plug together very smoothly, which is really nice, if you have a full SAP environment. The problem is that a full SAP environment will cost you X million.

The best way to improve any business' processes will be a tailored solution, but people are lazy and want a brand names ERP instead. Which is funny because in the long run it will be less appropriate, less efficient, and more time consuming and expensive to implement.

But who am I to tell a client they're a fucking idiot for choosing the product which will probably earn us higher fees.
>>
>>674667657
I'm with you. I've tried to push sealed up 3rd party software up the chain, but they won't even let you talk about it around the Iseries. Some of our divisions use SAP, but most use epicor. I think the issue is that most companies try to take a one size fits all ERP, and customize it. That's where everything breaks in my experience.

>>674668510
The problem is as much the project management as it is the project. To implement, say, SAP Finance, the Finance department will want to own the project. Because they think it's a finance project. But they won't know the first thing about implementing a solution, be it a finance system or not.

If authority figures in organisations were so far up their own ass that they couldn't recognise they aren't the experts on everything, and then left it to those who are, these projects would run a lot more smoothly. Instead we get people vetoing the most appropriate tool for a job because someone once read in the news that a hacker used an open source tool, or something equally ridiculous.

If you go through the proper lifecycle of how IT enabled business change SHOULD happen, you'll run into a fraction of the problems.

How it should happen will eventually have to happened, at least in my industry. Increasing customer demand paired with an increasingly lean business model due to space will eventually require a huge jump in software function and infrastructure to avoid catastrophic losses. Space is a huge issue in a manufacturing environment. Everything just in time on 20 week firm supply chains is damn near impossible.

And anyone else who needs to be so compliant they'll gladly throw all other concerns out the window, yes.

I'm currently implementing a finance ERP for an insurer, and it's common knowledge that the only reason the client chose the platform is because of this.

The technology is there, the methodology is there, the practitioners with the skills are there, businesses just don't want to use them because they think that their way is the right way.

I literally cannot comprehend how anyone can commute for 1 hour a day work 8 sleep 8. shower/shit/cook/clean 3 hours

that leave you with 4 hours to breath. Those 4 just disappear if you have a family or ANYTHING ELSE TO DO THAT DAY. LIKE A MILLION THINGS.

>teach them how to take care of themselves, how to build self esteem, how to apply for jobs, build a resume, where to apply, how to cook, how to use the washer and dryer, how to shop for groceries, get them food stamps, show these people the love that was given to me when i first got sober
>when i stopped using drugs all the problems i had were still there from when i was 13
>i was simply using a bandage (the drugs) to cover up some serious issues
>this past year was the time to really put the work in on myself and improve who i am
>i've gained tremendous self confidence, my mental state and intelligence has returned, my health has come back, i naturally feel great all the time, i no longer have social anxiety, i'm well liked by many, have a ton of real friends now and girls mirin' and have a girlfriend
>my first 6 months sober i worked my ass off 60 hours/week and saved up every fucking penny of it living like a nigger

cont...

>in that six months i saved up about $11,000 after taking out cigarette money and rent money
>i then left this job to become a house manager which ended up with free living along with my food stamps of $200/month paying for all my groceries, my only expenses being $20-$25/week on cigarettes
>i applied and got accepted back to CSULB
>i started out slow; i had finished all my undergraduate courses and GE courses required for my BS in Finance
>only class left was financial accounting
>currently taking financial accounting and business law and kicking absolute ass
>i'm number one in my accounting course with a 99% currently (getting only 1 question wrong on tests and midterms)
>have a 93% in my business law class; boring as fuck and i hate the teacher it's a struggle to study for something i have absolutely no interest in
>and on my days of no school i work a part time job in mornings as a residential and commercial window washer for $12/hr under the table
>in 4 months i'll be finally moving out of sober living on my own to live closer to college and move forward with my life
>never felt this great, never been this healthy, this happy, in this good shape, this sharp, had this strong a relationship with my parents, felt this full of energy and gratitude for the life i live

the end i guess... very condensed life story.

with one year under your belt, what makes you think you're healthy? I personally am a drunkard, i kept my distance and still do from the more addictive drugs. The only reason i have this in a relative sense under control is because i never went completely face down into the dirt. I kept my rules of drinking the same since day one. Never let it interfer with times that i'm expected to function other than that in my free time i get sloppy drunk even though my body can not handle it. I give myself in the time period of 8-14 hours. which dictates the drinking.

the reason i think i am healthy or the reason i am healthy?

that would simply be the lifestyle i live. which is heavily based off my eating habits and exercise.

i eat zero fast food. i drink no soda. no energy drinks. quit cigarettes. i'll drink a cup of coffee in the mornign just black with no sugar or creamer. i drink about a gallon of water a day. i eat a shit ton of vegetables for the protein in vegetables. i don't eat meat anymore. protein in meat has been scientifically proven to cause cancer in humans. whereas protein in veges does not. this also includes any dairy products like milk (BAD), cheese (BAD), and eggs (BAD). i eat about 1500 calories a day consisiting of a 10 oz. glass of almond milk mixed with SOY protein daily for lunch. a snack of mixed nuts (usually almonds) and sometimes add dried cranberries. for dinner i make vegetarian meals usually indian dishes that my mom made me growing up. i eat lentils, black beans, avacados, sweet onions, green/red bell peppers, black olives, salad, garlic, ginger, garbonzo beans, spinach, potatoes, and various other vegetables.

i do cardio as well. i jog about a mile a day. ride the bike 20 miles every few days.

i have the most natural energy i've ever had. i am slim, fit, never feel tired. my brain is sharp and on point it's running at 1000 mph and able to comprehend everything that's running through it. my synapses make connects so fast. i'm quick with responses and witty comebacks. i just all around FEEL healthy. when you eat shti food, you feel like shit. and vice versa.

is this a good enough reason to "think" i am healthy?

but i'm not an active heroin user. i'm a former heroin user. with over a year without any prescription drugs, no over the counter drugs, no weed, no alcohol, no street drugs.

Actually sales, though you can make bank, is not an ideal job - too easy to measure performance. Recommend marketing perhaps. You want to be near where lots of money changes hands.

current and past tense are interchangable. Juding from my last post i think i'm drunk. My view is that the claim of being clean is much like the peopel with cancer or that had cancer "i've been cancer free x amount of time." or " i've been with cancer x amount of time." It's interchangeable and reffered to as it might happen again. Honestly I don't know. A few months ago one of the people i went to highschool with and got clean was found chopped up in a suitcase with their druggie roommate.who knows exactly how it happened but my view is that once accepting is always accepting. Not sure if that's coherent.

youre absolutely right in the sense that i may relapse and go back to using heroin. that applies to any sober alcoholic or addict. the obsession to use has been lifted; however, the temptation to use will be there for the rest of my life.

would i call that interchangeable? definitely poor use of words. i understand what you're trying to say, but that word portrays a different meaning then your thought process and could confuse others who are 'normies.'

and just like you, i don't know. i would like to say i will stay sober the rest of my life but who knows. i don't worry about that. i just worry about staying sober today. and tomorrow just for that day. and honestly it's fucking easy. i don't understand how it was so hard for me to even stay sober an hour before and now i don't even think about it.

and to see if you're an alcoholic. try going a year without drinking? if you struggle and can't do it you're what is called a functioning alcoholic. that justifies his drinking with a seemingly normal outside life where you're able to work, go to school function but you still rely on alcohol every day. but no one can tell you you're an alcoholic. that is a conclusion you would come to on your own.

the person i was in the past is a completely different person from who i am today. you wouldn't even recognize me. not even comparable except for at a DNA level.
