I don't smoke cigarettes but I do smoke pot. I'm not one of those ignorant potheads who claim it's healthy and cures cancer. I have enough common sense to know it's an unhealthy habit. At the same time, binge drinking is an unhealthy habit and almost all of my friends get hammered every weekend.
I plan to quit smoking once I graduate college. I made some great friends through smoking and it's given me a new appreciation for a lot of things in life. At the same time, I don't want to fuck my lungs up by decades of smoking.
As far as cost goes, I'll smoke a half ounce (~$120) every 3 months or so. It's not too expensive of a habit, but money has never been an issue for me.

Well when I started in 1993 I thought I was being cool. The health effects happen to OTHER people...not me. ....and for a long time it didnt effect me. But in 2011 smoking three packs a day was taking its toll on my wallet. I have been a runner and athletic all my life, but after I quit, it was apparent how much it had been holding me back.

It is stupid to do. I've been quit for about 6 months now. I've quit before though. The longest I stayed quit was about 1 year. I intend to stay quit this time though. The problem before is that I mistakenly thought that I could handle smoking a few while out drinking. I don't drink anymore though, so it won't be a problem. I'm pushing 40. I'm still in good health, but I know that it's only a matter of time before shit starts going wrong, especially if I keep smoking. Current smoker, going on 4 years now. Started smoking after I joined the military as it was a way for us to unwind after classes, also was a great place to make some good friends. Now I'm out of the military, but I work as a contractor with alot of other prior service members. Smoking is still a very large part of military culture as its the only real way to get a break from time to time. Like it's acceptable for me to take a break once an hour to smoke, but any other breaks are frowned upon.

I was in the sauna with a few of my friends a while ago and the subject of of smoking came up and we were all amazed that everyone we knew who smokes are either sick or dead.
We are all in our mid forties which is not a lot these days, for the most part the families up here lives to a hundred or a lot more but the ones we knew smoke died like in their seventies or the oldest smoker i know my own grandmother dies at 86 which is such a low age its almost unheard of up here.
My grandmothers sisters who are in their early nineties still live full lives, trek mountains and hit on young men when they can :D.
So keep away from smoking if you can, you will either live a long healthy life or die young - you choose.
Just remember the smoking death will not hit until the mid forties when everything is to late any way so suit yourself if you ever started smoking :D.
