So I'm turning 21 today /b/ and I had a question. I'm wanting to buy a bottle just for myself but something really good. I'd only use it for special occasions but I'd be the only one drinking from it, sort of a way to reflect on where I've been and where I'm wanting to go in life. So I was wondering if you guys had any suggestions on some good liquors you've had in the past. Thanks.

tldr: What is some good liquor you've drank in the past, it can be any type (bourbon, whisky, whiskey, vodka, tequila etc.

Are you implying that you will be drinking from the bottle? Use a glass.
Buy something over 40 bucks... Something aged in wood. Whisky, Rum, Tequila, cognac... whatever. Just sip and savor it.

Herholdt Rye is pretty tasty and low priced

Four Roses Single Barrel Small Batch depending on where you live and what distributors have deals on, it'll be 50-80 but that shit is amazing to sip on alone.

get some fine scotch. There are a million choices. You can fine tune what you buy to your individual taste. I like Cragganmore, Glenlivet is a good starting point.

alternatively, get some real nice bourbon. Woodford Reserve is a good one.

if you are a homosexual, buy a bottle of expensive cognac. It's like whiskey but made from grapes for gays and black people.

OP you can't really appreciate good liquor at 21. You are just pissing away money if you buy anything that doesn't come in a handle. Liquor at 21 is great fun, partly because being drunk is fun, but also because being drunk with friends / females is fun. Recommend half gallon sizes of Bacardi, Captain Morgan, Jack, or Stoli. There are lots of fine liquor choices to appreciate, but how do you compare fine liquor without some volume of experience as a baseline?

Hard to go wrong with a decent single malt unless you want to spend stupid money. If you haven't got a palette for whiskey yet I'd suggest an Irish (which tend to be a bit smoother due to the triple distillation and air drying).

Either a Bushmills 16yr or jamesons gold reserve will set you back about £60 so guessing under $100. Or if you do fancy something a bit special go for the Middleton very rare or the 21yr old Bushmills.

Just my personal pref mind.

If you're going for liquor go scotch, Irish or Japanese. Stay away from anything that hasn't been double distilled and hasn't used aged barrels. (American distillers always use new barrels which reduces depth of flavour because of some stupid law).

Good point and I do enjoy a bottle of Innis and Gunn beer which has been bourbon aged.

Do you remember what it was called?
>>
I don't know op. What do you want? For tequila, I like herradura anejo. For tequilas, go with an anejo at least. For scotch, someone mentioned dalwhinnie. Good choice. If you like scotch and you want something more intense, try an Islay like ardbeg. If you've got a hidden Fedora in the closet you can try a good absinthe. Hard to get good ones in most liquor stores, but Leopold brothers have a pretty damn good one. Tineye is a good Bourbon, yet pretty cheap (around 30 bucks here).

Anyway have fun. Hope you develop a taste for the good stuff

>>
>>674566956

>>
>>674566875
Depends on how you take it man.

Some scotches and whiskys are designed to be on the rocks, at which point drinking them straight actually makes them burn like one of Red's insults.I tend to like my whisky straight regardless of its design so it does sometimes burn more than the punishments I'll be receiving from Satan's devils for whacking my diddly too much.
>>
>>674567401
Already did, see>>674566676
>>
>>674567488
You talking about cask strength stuff? Even then I think it's much better to dilute it with a little water than cubes. Cold kills the flavor a bit man. Good for if you're forced to drink Jim beam but not so great for a 50 dollar bottle.
>>
For whisky I'd recommend
>jack Daniels
>Jameson
>40 creek
>crown reserve
>makers mark
>>
>>674567832
I don't agree, I think there are times when the cold helps the flavor. Or supposedly, anyways. They have those stones that you're supposed to put in your whisky when you want it on the rocks specifically so you don't dilute your spirits.

Again, I usually take my shit straight so I dunno what the hype's about really, but that's what I've heard and read. I know a number of people who are big on the whisky and scotch products.
>>
>>674568199
eventually you might want to decide what type of whisky is really your deal. Do you like the peaty Scotch whiskeys, or the rye whiskeys from Kentucky, or are you a Canadian rye person, or is the Irish sort of medley deal more your grade.
>>
>>674568339

That's my take on it, it still tastes the same but this way it warms up in your mouth which I like.

Some of the distillers do say about certain whiskeys with ice, like I think they now do snow grouse which is a variant of famous grouse but to be honest I think it's just a marketting thing.

If I'm drinking a cheaper blended whiskey I'll normally get ice to mellow out the harsh flavour though.

Something miner something. There were trumpets and trombones in the vignette, and the label was 30'ies-ish in style. But no, the actual name eludes me.
