The reason shields work so effectively is because it's a metal outing, with a wooden inning. The metal is good against slashing, the wood against piercing.
A crossbow bolt wouldn't be able to penetrate platemail that was padded underneath.
Furthermore you aren't supposed to have one single archer. They're "snipers" of that age, and they train in order to aim for specific parts. Faceplate, shoulders, knees, the fucking horses for crying out loud, plus you can shoot 3 arrows by the time you wind up 1 crossbow. (Not that crossbows aren't accurate or anything)

But platemail can be penetrated by itself, fully, and with something underneath, partially. A tank is meant to stop all missile attacks. A sniper rifle round would crumple on contact, and to my limited knowledge of tanks, they use a periscope, so there is no real method of shooting them, but you could shoot out their visuals and it would be just as effective, and much easier.

Knights would always lose to professional soldiers. They only seemed strong because they really only fought peasants.
Knights had no teamwork because they were too individual. No real tactics aside from charge. Needed perfect terrain to be effective. Would usually just pay mercenaries to take their place. Only required to work a couple of days a year.
Knights were pretty terrible overall they were only great at charging full pelt at a bunch of peasants over flat land after some preparation time.
Samurai were far better overall warrior.

First, that helmet looks plenty able to be penetrated. Look at the seams on the neck, the wide part along the side. Granted, the curvature would stop an arrow from many more angles, but this could still be penetrated.
Ignoring the first part because the parts underneath the armour would not stop an arrow outright, and if it is penetrating a weak point easily, the arrow would not be blunt enough for it to stop it.
Also. You do not see an arrow coming. You don't "roll with the punches". It travels at (this is just a random number) like 80mph. You can't predict this. By the time you realize you have an arrow inside of you, it's inside of you.
