i can't speak for you but in my case it's nothing like filling insecurity or any type of void, i just like to develop myself, when i go into deep thinking mode i just train my brain, i need to find a way, exploit that way and be victorious, then i get a feeling of accomplishment, that i did something to develop my thinking and use it in something that will be useful in future, no matter how petty it seems, when you are thinking hard you need to logicaly connect facts, get a deeper meaning of what was said, see train of thought of the another human, it's really useful in what i plan to do in future, so to say build A.I. To build a properly thinking A.I i need to be on way higher level than i currently am.
as for ego and pride, it's hard to talk about those things when you are under anon, because it doesnt matter what i say, i can totally flush all of it and start with blank page in next converstaion. So the words i say doesn't carry any value, because when you accomplished something and there is no one to say "good job" did you really do anything worth a damn?
