I have loads of pre-2010 Taylor tv moments like music vidoes , MTV/CMT stuff, and the 2009 SNL episode in 1080i. I still have access to the recordings and can watch them whenever I want but sadly all the content has been stuck on my DirectTV's DVR since 11/07/2009 because Blu-ray recorders aren't sold in the US. I bough this $200 PVR thing that claimed to allow you to transfer stuff from your cable box to your computer but it kept freezing and the video files created on my computer didn't look half as sharp as the 1080i versions stuck on my DVR. I'd like to get them out of there before the DVR breaks down from old age but I have no clue how to do so without losing the sharp 1080i picture quality.

Well there seems to be no issue with recording it onto a dvd recorder. If Blu-ray recorders were allowed in the US I would had backed it up a long time ago. Creating files of the content on my computer would mostly be to help out other fans who wish to have her SNL stuff 1080i instead of 720p. It's an old DirectTV dvr from around 2008. It's pretty much loaded with stuff.

The model number is located in the back of the box. Knowing me I'd probably wreck something in the process of pull the HDD out and would never get it back up and working again. I think my best bet if I really wanted to preserve her live stuff would be to import a region free blu-ray recorder but those things cost like way over $1000 online. Is the juice worth the squeeze yes. Would I have to save up for it? you bet. After researching a little on google and watching a few youtube videos I bought a $200 PVR that allowed me to connect an HDMI cord from my DVR to a their converter box to my computer. It would record for about 5mins and stop for no reason. The recordings looked HD but not nearly as good as the source.
