This would never be worth it for the companies in a million years.
Let's assume a woman makes 3k a month, on average she'll work 20, 8 hours days. That is 18,75$ per hour. Now let's say she has take 2 days off for her period every month and she never lies about her period. That's 60 days off a year. Now, the costs an employer pays when it comes to salary are often double the salary, due to having to pay insuarance, pension and all that other stuff. Meaning that if we take the hourly wage of this said woman, multiply it by 60 for all the days she takes off and then multiply it by 2 to get the amount the employer probably has to pay realisticly we find out that in a year the employer would have to spend 2250$ for every woman.
This is fucking absurd. Not only is that expensive on it's own, but the price will go up as the womans salary does or if she takes more than 60 days a year off. And that is for one woman alone, imagine if you'd employ a hundred of them, that's 200k more costs per year.

Not only is this unfair from a gender perspective, it's really fucking stupid. I'm a chick who was heavy period days from the start of my period week. Along with my heavy flow, I get really bad cramps. Already once the pain was so bad I could not sit up, I was stuck in a fetal position because I could -not- move. I took about four ibuprofen once I was even able to sit up for a minute.
Every woman is different. I personally have endometriosis. That shit fucks with my uterus and everything else from having really bad cramping episodes to running the risk of being unable to have children (or having complications that could lead to death)

I'm a practice administrator at an Ophthalmology practice. The employee in question was an Ophthalmic technician. We're in a rural area so most of the techs are locals and start totally fresh and have to be trained for a long period of time prior to being allowed to work with patients in our practice. We'd put her through schooling to help her learn optical theory and get certified as well as on-job training to help her work with patients. I have a lot of responsibilities and can't watch every interaction between techs so I rely on people coming to me when they have problems.
This clique has been giving us problems for a little while now. They're a group of 3 female techs who have worked together since before the practice was formed. Getting rid of 1 means getting rid off all 3 and we just can't get 3 techs trained that quickly all at once. The pool of applicants in our area is appalling. So I'm not saying it wasn't a good reason or a justified feeling on her part. What she did wrong was quitting on the spot (you never, EVER fucking do that especially in the middle of the work day) and quitting before she had even discussed any of this with me. It was a rash decision handled in the worst way possible.

That being said, some women have pre-existing medical issues (such as ovarian cysts) which can cause IMMENSE pain and are often hard to treat. These women are rare and they're probably the only people who actually need time out to deal with their period. Even so, they should go to the doctor for it, like everybody else.

While clearly the idea of it is completely stupid, we also have to consider what this means in the long run. Currently the 'gender pay gap' is completely misunderstood. Men don't make more than women, but men -as a whole- tend to have longer careers and go for high paying majors. Women on the other hand often-times leave for maternal reasons.
This period day will only cause for a bigger gap between the average success of men and women, and in return will lead women to complain that they aren't payed as much.
I'd say as long as there's a limited number of paid period days per year before they go unpaid, I don't see the problem. Period cramps can be debilitating sometimes. What, does that make me a cuck for agreeing? It's not like they'd be having any fun with their off-time and limiting the number of paid ones per year would discourage abusing the power.

While kids and pregnancy often pull a woman away from work, most of them will give the company plenty of warning to say they're going to leave, so that someone else can be hired in time to take her place. I hire mostly younger girls (I work in a clothing store aimed for younger women).
The two younger ones are high school aged and they've given me plenty of warning that they're going to be attending university soon. They have also warned that they may have to leave.
The oldest one is going on maternity leave in two weeks, but she's given well over 5 months warning and she's had her mother flown in from her home country to care for the baby when she comes back to work.
In a workplace where all of us are young and female, I've never had anyone drop out on me like you described. Not even in any of our other branches.
