Seeing as I'm the only anon who can afford to be a PC and a console gamer I'll give you some insight.
Movement is much more responsive on a key board even for games like Super Smash bros 64. With your thumb you still force your character to walk the way you dont want to for a small amount of time after you've reacted. Just like in typing quick lifts give the better result for movement and even assists in hit scan shooters to line up the shot better than any clumsy thumb could. Alternatively spending movement buttons on hotkeys for every thing can gimp your sensitive movements for weapon changes grenades crouch and environment interaction. Still at the end of the day it feels like the console only gets the bonus for the fact you are leaving more than half your fingers inactive until you need to hit an alt trigger and using buttons with right thumb is just as bad but once you learn the positioning of your keyboard you should be able to be faster honestly.

With a joystick, all 4 axes are bound to one finger which means the entire range of movement is limited to what that one finger can do.
Conversely, with WASD controls the player has immediate and independent control over at least 3 axes at any one time.
Control sticks allow for greater discrepancy between the axes, but WASD allows for greater control over the axes. When reaction times matter to the millisecond would you rather have more control or the ability to move slightly in one direction between two axes?
